Giorgi v Kerber

TENNIS - Brisbane International (Women's)

2016-01-04 04:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-01-03 19:57:59)

Market Information

Camila Giorgi had a good 2015 reaching the final in Katowice where she beat Radwanska in the semi-final. Although that was on clay she won a grass court tournament in Holland in June. With Pennetta also from Italy winning the US Open, she may be inspired to greater things in 2016.

Angelique Kerber won 4 tournaments in 2015, with the last being in August. She plays a lot of matches during the year and tiredness can be a factor. They have only ever played once, that was last year in Wuhan which Kerber won. Matches early on in the year often favour the underdog before the form settles down.

Summary:  The value is with Giorgi at 4.00.

Makarova v Petkovic

2016-01-08 05:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-01-07 19:42:45)

Carla Suarez Navarro got to the final in Miami last year on hard and also in Italy although that was on clay. She won 2 matches in Brisbane last year and continued to do well in the first half of the year, BUT starting in Birmingham she lost 8 matches on the trot. She won 3 tournaments last season in Shenzhen, Dubai and Indian Wells, all on hard but then struggled towards the end of the year with injury .

Joanna Konta had an amazing year in 2015, having previous only played on the ITF circuit. She qualified for the French by winning 3 matches but then lost in the first round. She then won 3 matches at Eastbourne beating Muguruza along the way. At Wimbledon she was unlucky to draw Sharapova in the first round but then won 3 matches in the US Open, again beating Muguruza. In the Wuhan Open she went one better and knocked out 2 top players in Azarenka and Halep. She puts her new found success down to a positive attitude fostered by her new mind coach. In the first round of the Australian she beat Venus Williams in straight sets, managing to out ace her by 5 to 1. She was actually born in Australia which might help her a bit in this tournament .

Saisai Zheng is form China and ranked 83rd in the world. She has won a number of matches in her native China but has struggled elsewhere against the stronger players. They have played once before in French qualifying in 2013 which Konta won but that was on clay .

A four match losing run ended when she bounced back getting to the final of the China Open in October .

Summary:  Bacsinszsky at 1.48 to beat Beck.   250/1 on Bacsinszsky outright winner for a small interest .

Madison Brengle did very well at the beginning of last year, reaching the final in Hobart then winning 3 matches in the Australian. She won 3 matches again in Stuttgart although that was on indoor clay. She had a bad run after that losing 9 matches on the trot but then played reasonably for the rest of the year.

Kerber 1.10 v Brengle 10.00

Azarenka v Strycova

Victoria Azarenka has made a good comeback having been plagued by injuries in the last 2 years. She won in Brisbane last week and must be full of confidence, She won her 3 opening matches very easily in straight sets with her opponents not scoring more than 2 in any set.

Barbora Strycova beat Muguruza in the previous round surprisingly. She has an all or nothing style so that if she is on song she can win against top players. Last year in Wuhan she beat Sharapova in the 2nd round although Sharapova retired in the final set.

Info: They played each other last year in the Australian which Azarenka won.

Summary:  Slight value for Strycova to win the match at 12.00 or on the handicap + 6.5 games at 2.20.

Konta 2.65 v Makarova 1.55

Williams, Serena v Sharapova, Maria

TENNIS Australian Open ( Womens )

2016-01-26 02:45:00 (This report was created at 2016-01-25 19:37:36)

Market Information

Serena Williams at 34 is still the best woman player in the world by a mile and came within an inch last year of winning the calendar slam. Discounting the Hopman Cup which she doesn't take too seriously she only lost 3 matches all year (to Kvitova in Madrid, Bencic in the Rogers Cup and Vinci in the semi of the US Open). But she won the other 52 matches.

Maria Sharapova also had a good year but lost 9 matches. In this tournament she lost a set to Lauren Davis and has been having service difficulties. Head to head Serena leads 17-1 and the only time she lost was the very first time they played in 2004. Since then she has only lost 2 sets.

Summary:  S.Williams to win 2-0 in sets at 1.78.

S.Williams 1.25 vs Sharapova 4.00

Konta v Zhang

Market Information

Johanna Konta played with great determination and discipline against Makarova, so much so that Makarova became quite distraught even though she was winning at the time. These two players have played twice before and it is level at 1-1, having played in 2012 and 2013 .

Shuai Zhang hardly won a match last year although she did win a few qualifying matches for slams. She played very well to beat Halep in the first round and in the last round she won against Keys although Keys had an injury. Zhang is ranked 133 in the world and at 27 is unlikely to improve significantly.

Summary:  Konta at 1.50, is far stronger mentally and should come through.

Konta 1.50 v Zhang 2.85

Kerber v Konta

TENNIS Australian Open ( Womens )

2016-01-28 01:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-01-27 18:10:46)

Market Information

Angelique Kerber won 4 tournaments last year but has never done that well in the Grans Slams. So that may play on her mind a bit. Her serve is not as good as Konta's either. They have not played each other before which should favour the underdog.

Johanna Konta is the 1st British woman to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since 1983 when Jo Durie made the semis in the US Open. Jo Durie will be commentating on the match. It will be a difficult match for Konta as Kerber is as determined as she is.

Summary: Slight value with Konta at 3.56.

Kerber 1.40 v Konta 3.65
