Kuznetsova v Azarenka

Tennis - Miami Open ( Women's Final )

2016-04-02 19:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-02 11:23:01)

Market Information

Svetlana Kuznetsova has done remarkably well recently and has been rolling back the years with a win in Sydney. If she wins a few rounds in a tournament she draws on her memories of 2 Grand Slam victories and becomes inspired. In this current tournament her path has not been easy to the final as her first 4 matches went the distance. The extra day's rest will help he but expect her younger opponent to be the fresher of the two.

Victoria Azarenka is fast becoming the best woman player in the world. She has lost only one match this year to Kerber in the Australian. The other 21 she has won convincingly. She is attempting to do the Indian Wells and Miami double which is quite difficult to do with quite different conditions for each tournament. Her injury worries are behind her now and she must be favourite to win at least one Grand Slam this year .

Info:  In head to heads they stand at 4-4 but crucially since 2012, Azarenka has won their last 3 encounters denying Kusnetsova a single set.

Summary:  Slight value on Azarenka at 1.22.

Kuznetsova 5.30 v Azarenka 1.22

Riske v V.Williams

TENNIS Charleston USA ( Women's )

2016-04-06 18:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-06 11:49:30)

Market Information

Alison Riske has not been in good form although she did reach the final in Shezhen in January, but in a fairly weak field. She then had 3 first round loses followed by a win in the first round against fellow American Altick in this tournament. The surface is unusual in that it is Green Clay which is a bit faster than Red Clay. Having already played a round on this change of surface gives her a slight advantage. Last year she only won 3 matches in 2 tournaments, normally losing in the first or second rounds in other tournaments.

Venus Williams still plays to a high standard at the age of 35. Diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome in 2011, she has now adopted a vegan/raw food diet to help with the condition. This year she won the Taiwan Open in February albeit in a weak field. However she has lost 4 times in the first round to inform players Kasatkina , Konta , Nara and Vesnina. Last year she won a Zhu Hai in November, this time in a fairly strong field. Her Oriental swing was very successful as she won in Wuhan beating Muguruza in the final. She is more emotionally stable than her sister who she has lost twice to at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Info:  This is the time first the players have met.

Summary:  Slight advantage to Venus Williams at 1.35.

Riske 4.00 v V.Williams 1.35

Gavrilova v Stephens

Tennis - Charleston USA ( Women's )

2016-04-07 18:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-07 13:42:23)

Market Information

Daria Gavrilova was originally Russian but switched nationalities to Australian in December 2015. Her coach is also Australian, the experienced Nicole Pratt. She had a good run in the Australian this year, beating Kvitova in the second round. Earlier she won 2 matches in the Hopman Cup beating Svitolina and Lisicki. Since than she has had a number of early round exits. Last year she played very well in Rome by reaching the semi-final where she lost to Sharapova. Previously she had beaten Sharapova in Miami. She has a lot of potential and is a very enthusiastic player .

Sloane Stephens has started the year very well by winning 2 minor tournaments in Auckland and Acapulco. She had a surprising first round loss in the Australian to Wang and 2 more recent first round losses to Bochard and Watson. She is no longer with coach Nick Saviano who had a very positive effect on her. When she plays she seems to be half asleep and lacks fighting spirit. Tends to go for her shots too much.

Info: This is the first time the players have met.

Summary: Slight value with Gavrilova at 2.67 (even though Stephens has home advantage).

Gavrilova 2.67 v Stephens 1.58

Errani v Stosur

Tennis - Charleston USA ( Women's )

2016-04-07 19:30:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-07 11:54:00)

Market Information

Sara Errani favourite surface is clay but Green Clay is faster than the more usual Red Clay. Errani won in Dubai in February on Hard courts but has lost in early rounds in 4 tournaments since then. Last year she reached the final in Bucharest on clay losing to Schmiedlova. She won 4 matches in the French before losing to eventual winner Serena. In this tournament last year she had a surprising loss to Czech player Hradecha. In February she won a tournament in Rio on clay.

Sam Stosur enjoys playing in the States and is a former US Open Champion. This year she won 2 matches in Sydney before losing to an improving Puig. Another 2 winning matches in Indian Wells followed, this time losing to the sunshine-double winner Azarenka. Her kick serve works very well on clay against Errani who is too short at 5 foot 4 to cope with it. Last year she showed her liking for clay when winning the Gastein in July. Earlier she had won in Strasbourg also on clay. Although she is 32 now she is very fit and the trend is for longer playing careers.

Info:  In head to heads Stosur leads 6-2, winning last year against Errani in Rome on clay.

Summary:  Value for Stosur at 2.14.

Errani 1.83 v Stosur 2.14

Kerber v Begu

Tennis - Charleston USA ( Women's )

2016-04-08 18:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-08 12:38:05)

Market Information

Angelique Kerber prefers Hard Courts to Clay but still plays well on clay. She reached the semi-final in Miami this year, losing to the eventual winner Azarenka. She won her first Grand Slam in Melbourne beating Serena in the final, although that was on Hard Courts. Last year she won 4 tournaments including this current event in which she beat Keys in the final, she also won in Stuttgart on indoor clay. In June she won the Birmingham Aegon Classic but that was on grass which is least like clay of all the surfaces.

Irina-Camelia Begu from Romania, enjoys playing on the clay being her best surface. She has been in good form in this tournament, winning all her three matches in 3 sets. In the previous tournament she won 3 matches beating Pliskova in the third round. Last year she won in Korea in September although in quite a weak field. She reached the semi-final in Rio on clay and won 3 matches in the Australian.

Info:  In head to head they stand at 2-2 with Begu winning their last encounter in Rome last year on clay. Kerber won the one before that in Charleston but Begu beat her in the Australian last year. Their other match was in 2013 which Kerber won.

Summary: Slight value for Begu at 4.20.

Kerber 1.32 v Begu 4.20

Kasatkina v Stephens

Tennis - Charleston USA ( Women's )

2016-04-08 20:30:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-08 14:16:53)

Market Information

Darya Kasatkina is an up and coming young Russian player who has all the shot  Her favourite surface is clay and she won the French Open Juniors in 2015. This year she won 4 matches at Indian Wells, beating Bacsinszky before losing to Pliskova. In the Australian she was unlucky to play Serena in the 3rd round and only won 2 games. Last year she won 3 matches in the Kremlin Cup before losing to fellow Russian Pavlyuchenkova. So she has great potential but she's not there yet.

Sloane Stephensis a bit of an enigma in that she can play one match appallingly then the next brilliantly. She has the technique to be a great player but is often let down by her lack of confidence. She comes from a very sporty family as her mother was a champion swimmer and her father a professional footballer. Tragically he was killed in a car crash in 2009. Stephens should be full of confidence having won 2 minor tournaments this year but often loses heart if things are not going well. She gets through a lot of coaches.

Info:  She has not played Stephens before.

Summary:  Slight value for Stephens at 2.13.

Kasatkina 1.91 v Stephens 2.13

Kerber v Stephens

Tennis - Charleston USA ( Women's )

2016-04-09 18:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-09 12:59:27)

Market Information

Angelique Kerber won her first Grand Slam title in Australia this year beating Serena in the final. Her form fell off after that understandably, but now she seems to be right back up there. She won both her last 2 matches in this current tournament convincingly 6-2 6-3 and was in the semi-final in Miami. Once she wins a few matches in a tournament she builds up a momentum .

Sloane Stephens seems to be responding well to her new coach Kamau Murray. In her match against Kasatkina she saved a match point in the final set then came through bravely. Kamau Murray runs an academy for under-privileged kids in Chicago so may be able to instill more confidence in Sloane. Winning 2 tournaments earlier in the year should help her.

Info: In head to heads they stand at 1-1 with Stephens winning their previous meeting last year at Indian Wells. Kerber won their only other encounter in 2012.

Summary: This is a battle between German discipline and American flair and the German discipline should come out on top. Slight value for Kerber at 1.62.

Kerber 1.62 v Stephens 2.58

Errani v Vesnina

Tennis - Charleston USA ( Women's )

2016-04-09 20:30:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-09 16:44:26)

Market Information

Sara Errani has started the year well by winning the tournament in Dubai. She lost in the first round in Indian Wells and Miami but is now on a run of 3 matches. Her match against Putinseva was a tough one as she had to come from behind in the first set to win on a tie-breaker. She is a clay court specialist and fights for every point. Last year she was in the final in Bucharest and won in Rio (both on clay).

Elena Vesnina has also started the year well winning 3 matches in Qatar beating Halep and Wozniaki along the way. Clay is marginally her best surface. Her form has improved this year possibly because she go married last November.

Info:  In head to heads, Errani leads 1-0 (winning their match in 2012 on clay).

Summary:  Slight value for Errani at 1.92.

Errani 1.92 v Vesnina 2.07

Giorgi v Cibulkova

TENNIS - Katowice Final, Poland ( Women's)

2016-04-10 15:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-10 10:55:58)

Market Information

Camila Giorgi has not done much this year before this tournament, winning just 4 matches while losing 7. Last year she won the grass court tournament in Holland and was a finalist in this current tournament. She plays a very aggressive game similar to Cibulkova which will make the rallies quite short. She obviously likes this tournament as she was a finalist in 2014 as well.

Dominika Cibulkova has played well this year, reaching the semi-final in Hobart then making the final in Acapulco. She had a very good 2014 but then had a bad achilles injury which kept her out of the game for 4 months in 2015. Now seems to be almost back to her best. Last year she won 4 matches in the Australian before losing to Serena. Her only other success was reaching the semi-final in Tokyo in September where she lost to Radwanska .

Info:  In head to head, Giorgi leads 2-0. Their previous meeting was last year in Istanbul on hard.

Summary:  Slight value for Giorgi at 2.25.

Stephens v Vesnina

Tennis - Charleston Final, USA ( Women's )

2016-04-10 18:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-10 13:46:27)

Market Information

Sloane Stephens beat a below par Kerber in the semi-final who had to retire in the 2nd set having lost the first set, with a viral illness. You never know quite how Stephens is going to play and as she is favourite in the match she may feel added pressure.

Elena Vesnina beat Errani in the semi-final over 3 sets which is not the easiest thing to do. Vesnina seems to be playing with a new found conviction and clay is her best surface. She started the year slowly, failing to qualify for the Australian but her fortunes soon picked up when winning 3 matches in Qatar and 2 matches in Miami. She actually had to qualify for this tournament and has now won 5 more matches to reach the final. Her form last year was only average but we can put that down to thinking about her wedding in November.

Info:  In the head to head record, Vesnina leads 1-0 beating Stephens in Hobart 3 years ago 6-2 6-2 .

Summary: Based on this year's form only, the match is evenly balanced so at the odds against Vesnina is some value at 2.52.

TENNIS - Copa Colsanitas, Bogota, Colombia ( Women's )

Outright Preview.

2016-04-12 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-11 15:20:09)

Market Information

This event was previously an ITF tournament from 1993 to 1997, but then was upgraded to WTA status in 1998.

Last year's winner was Brazilian Teliana Pereira, while previous winners include Garcia, Jankovic and Arruabarrena.

This year's field is not particularly strong. Svitolina is by far and away the best player but at 2.38 presents little value. Last year's winner Pereira is probably the second favourite and seeded 2, so at 9.0 she could be some each-way value as she is on the opposite side of the draw to Svitolina.

Not surprisingly coming from Brazil, Pereira's best surface is clay and after winning this tournament last year she qualified for the French. She won in the first round but then took Makarova to 3 sets before losing. She has only won 1 match in WTA tournaments this year although most of these have been Hard Court tournaments.

Info: Red Clay - 32 players - 8 seeds.

Summary: Teliana Pereira at 9.00.

Camila Giorgi is Italian, aged 24 and ranked 49 in the world. She is coached by her father and made the final in Katowice (recently on clay). Anika Beck is a young German player of 22 ranked 41 in the world. She hasn't won many matches this year but did have a nice run in the Australian where she won 3 matches beating Bacsinszky in the second round before losing to eventual winner Kerber. Market Information

Ekterina Makarova has not played since Miami where she won 3 matches beating Kvitova and Svitolina along the way. In the Australian Open she also won 3 matches eventually losing to Konta in a very long hard fought match. Last year she won 3 matches in the US Open and made the semi-final in Washington. She does well in the bigger tournaments reaching the semi in last years Australian Open as well.

Roberta Vinci was playing in the Fed Cup at the weekend in Spain and lost both her matches badly so may be a bit tired. Earlier in the year she made the 1/4 final in Qatar and she won the tournament in St Petersburg. Last year her great success was reaching the final of the US Open but at 33 now she may be slowing down a bit.

Info:  The tournament is a premier event and is the only women's event played on indoor clay. It is the same clay that they use in the French and is a fast surface. In head to heads, Makarova leads 3-2, winning their last encounter in 2015 at the Australian Open. In 2014 Makarova won again in Rome, the only time they have met on clay .

Market Information

Monica Niculescu also played in the Fed Cup at the weekend but in spite of winning the first set 6-0 against Petkovic she lost that match and the tie for Romania against Germany. She prefers playing on hard courts to clay although her patient style may frustrate Garcia. She has not won more than 2 matches in any tournament this year. In Birmingham last year on grass she made the final, beating Radwanska in the semi-final but grass is quite a different surface to clay.

Caroline Garcia played in the Fed Cup at the weekend and must be on a high as France came from 2-1 down to beat Holland. She won her singles match then she and Mladenovic won the deciding doubles to clinch the tie. Garcia has played well this year winning all 3 of her singles matches in the Hopman Cup on clay. then 3 matches in Dubai and Monterrey. Her best surface is clay and in this event last year she won 2 matches. In November 2015 she won a tournament in Limoge on indoor hard courts and she made the final in Monterrey.

Radwanska v Petkovic

TENNIS Stuttgart Germany Women-16

2016-04-21 18:30:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-21 12:59:26)

Market Information

Agnieszka Radwanska started the year well by winning the tournament in Shenzen . She then made the semi-final of the Australian , losing to Serena . In March she won 4 matches in Indian Wells . She is the most skilful player on the WTA and some of her shots are extraordinary . Last year she was in the final at Eastbourne then made the semi-final at Wimbledon where she lost to Muguruza . In September she won in Tokyo and China and then won the big end of season Championship in Singapore .

Petkovic has had an indifferent start to the year . Although she was a finalist in Qatar where she lost to Ostapenko she proceeded to lose her next 5 matches . She then stopped the rot by beating Niculescu in the Fed Cup having lost the first set 6-0 . Clay is her best surface and she does have home advantage but Radwanska should be too clever for her

In head to heads Radwanska leads 6-0 although their last meeting was in 2012 .

Slight value for Radwanska at 1.49

Ivanovic v Pliskova

TENNIS Stuttgart Germany Women-16

2016-04-21 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-04-21 12:55:25)

Market Information

Karolina Pliskova has had mixed fortunes this year . She has played well in team events , winning 3 out of 4 matches in the Fed Cup but has lost 3 times in first round matches . In Indian Wells she won 4 matches and took Azarenka to 3 sets in the semi-final . Stuttgart is played indoors on clay which may help Pliskova as she has a career record of 10/3 on indoor hard courts which play similarly to these fast clay courts. She played better last year when reaching the final in Dubai then winning her home tournament in Prague in May . She was again a finalist in Birmingham and Stanford .

Ana Ivanovic is a former number one player but has been slipping down the rankings of late to 19th . She has also started the year averagely , not winning more than 2 matches in any tournament . In Auckland and Sydney she lost in the first round . She tends to play a high risk game and if her shots are not going in , can become quite distraught . Like Pliskova she played much better last year making the semi-final in the French and winning 4 matches in the China Open .

In head to heads Pliskova leads 4-0 , 2 of those wins were this year and 1 last year .

Value for Pliskova at 2.30

Market Information

Laura Siegemund won the first set against Radwanska as predicted, but Radwanska was unable to find a way to win this time. Siegemund closed the match out in the second with no nerves at all. So she has nothing to lose now and her new found belief could take her all the way. She showed great promise as a junior and the German public thought she was going to be the new ' Steffi Graf '. However this put a lot of pressure on her and she never really blossomed. But now she has at 28.

Angelique Kerber is playing with great confidence now being a Grand Slam Champion achieved at the Australian in January. Germany also beat Romania away in the Fed Cup last weekend in which Kerber featured prominently. In this current tournament, Kerber defeated Kivtova in the semi-final and although she lost the second set she came back strongly in the third .

SUMMARY:  Kerber ruthless efficiency should carry the day, so value for Kerber at 1.37.

At 6 foot 1, her serve is her strongest weapon. She plays slightly better on hard courts but is still very useful on clay.

Lucy Safarova had a bacterial infection last autumn which hospitalised her and has yet to recapture her form of early 2015. Coming into this tournament she had lost 5 straight first round matches. She has now won 3 on the trot but against fairly easy opposition. Before the illness last year she had made the final in the French open, taking a set off Serena. She was also in the final in Qatar. Last year she played a lot better winning the Gastein Ladies tournament in July and the Strasbourg tournament in May, both on clay. She is a former winner of the US Open.

Lucy Safarova seems to be over her illness now with a good win over her fellow countrywoman Pliskova in the semi-final. But she may not be back to the excellent form she showed last year. She is 3 years younger than Stosur at 29 but Stosur is still very fit.

Info:  In head to heads Safarova leads 10-3 but last year the honours were even at 1 a piece.
