Williams, Serena v Vesnina, Elena

TENNIS Wimbledon Womens-16

2016-07-07 14:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-07-07 11:47:08)

Vesnina to win the first set 5.50

Vesnina has won her last 2 matches convincingly against 2 good opponents . She has a good chance of winning the first set before Serena goes into " Warrior Mode ". Serena has lost in the final of the last 2 Grand Slams so doubts may be creeping into her mind . Certainly Vesnina has nothing to lose and will be more relaxed in the first set .

Value for Vesnina at 10.2.

Miracles can happen

Vesnina could pull off a shock result and beat the greatest woman player of all time . If Vesnina continues to play as well as she has in her previous matches and Serena has a few lapses in concentration as she often does , Vesnina could win .

Kerber v Venus Williams

"A possible transit of Venus to the final"

Angelique Kerber is now a Grand Slam Champion having won the Australian this year and knows she can win one at least one more. She is the consummate percentage player and very determined, reaching the semi-final without losing a set. However in the warm-up tournament in Birmingham she lost to Suarez-Navarro in the 1/4 final and before that she had 3 first round loses.

Venus Williams is very popular at Wimbledon and will have most of the crowd on her side. She is 36 now and has won 5 times championships at the All England Club. She has won her last 2 matches in straight sets, winning both opening sets on tie-breaks. She plays the big points very well because she has been there many times before. She would dearly like to be in the final one more time where she will most likely meet her sister.

2016-07-09 15:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-07-09 10:53:28)

Market Information

"Serena not so calm"

Angelique Kerber was the surprise winner of the first Grand Slam of this year, the Australian Open. That was her first Major win which will give her the confidence to win another . She made the semi-final at Wimbledon in 2012 and the 1/4 final 2 years ago . Grass is her best surface , winning 71.4% of her matches . So far in this tournament she has not lost a set and only 2 have gone to tie-breaks . She expects to win tournaments now having won 2 tournaments this year so far and 4 last year .

Last September in the US Open, Serena was going for the Calendar Slam but that all ended when she lost surprisingly to Vinci in the semi-final . She was so disappointed with this that she didn't play for the rest of the year . She returned in the Australian but lost to Kerber in the final and then to Mugurua in the French final .So after winning the Serena Slam she has gone 3 Slams without a win . This will play on her mind and doubts may creep in .

Info: head to heads Serena leads 5-2 but crucially Kerber won their last meeting in 3 sets . Kerber also won in Cincinnati in 2012 in straight sets .

Summary: Slight value for Kerber at 4.40.

Market Information

"Too much of a risk to bet Alison"

Coco Vandeweghe is American aged 24 and ranked 35 in the world. She is taking the game more seriously now and has made a great improvement in the last 2 years. She has a lot of natural talent and hits the ball very hard. On grass her serve gives her an advantage which is reduced on hard courts. She won the grass court tournament in Holland and then won 3 rounds in Birmingham and Wimbledon. She has also won a number of hard court matches earlier in the year.

Alison Riske is also good on grass and likes to come up to the net with her all court game. This is not as effective on hard courts. She has won 56.7% of her matches on hard courts compared to 56.2% by Vandeweghe. In January she made the final in Shenzhen in which she lost to Radwanska. However after that she lost 7 times in opening matches before reaching another final in Birmingham on grass.

Market Information

"Venus still transiting favorably"

Venus Williams has won 49 titles in her career and amassed over $34 million dollars. It is likely that she will be able to raise her game one more time in the final in Stanford in front of her home fans. She won fairly convincingly against Riske - 6-1 7-6 in the semi-final and has already collected one title in Taiwan earlier this year.

Johanna Konta is from England and has had an amazing rise up the rankings in the last 18 months to reach 18th in the world. Her mental approach is much improved now having been coached by a good sports psychologist. This is her first WTA final and it wont be long before she wins one. She plays her best tennis on hard courts, enjoying a 65.4% record compared to her overall percentage of 60.9%. She started the year well by reaching the semi-final in the Australian and has made steady progress since.

In the Australian she was unlucky to draw eventual winner Kerber in the third round and last year she reached the final in Hobart on hard courts.

Market Information

"Elena to scale the heights against Keys"

Madison Keys is American, aged 21 and ranked 12th in the world. She recently made the top 10 for the first time but has since slipped out. She plays well on hard courts but her best surface is grass where her serve comes to the fore. She won the tournament in Birmingham on grass and then won 3 matches at Wimbledon. In May she reached the final in Rome, beating Kvitova and Muguruza along the way.

Elena Vesnina is from Russia, aged 29 and ranked 24th in the world. She has had an excellent year, reaching the semi-final at Wimbledon where she lost to eventual winner Serena Williams. In April she made the final in Charleston having won 5 matches to get there. She attributes her favorable change in form to marrying in November of last year. She has won 35 matches this year and only lost 13.

Info:  In head to heads Keys won their only meeting at Eastbourne in 2014. However that was on her favored grass .

Court Surface:  Montreal Hard Courts.

Summary:  Vesnina at 3.02.

Keys 1.50 v Vesnina 3.02

Market Information

"Steady Vinci to crack the code and win"

Roberta Vinci is Italian, aged 33 and ranked 8th in the world. She is seeded 7th in this event and had a bye through to the 2nd round. Vinci has come down from the dizzy heights of reaching the US Open final last year but has still played well this year especially on hard courts. In February she won the tournament in St.Petersburg, beating Bencic in the final. She won 3 matches in Qatar although since then has only played averagely.

Camila Giorgi is also Italian and 9 years younger than Vinci and plays much better than her ranking of 77. She had a close match against Stephens in the first round, managing to win in two tie-break sets. She beat Bouchard in Washington but before that had lost 4 matches on the trot. She has played well on clay this year, reaching the final in Katowice but suffered a number of first round losses before that.

Info:  In the head to head record, they stand at 1-1 with Giorgi winning there last encounter in 2014 in Poland on hard courts.

Court Surface:  Montreal Hard Courts

Summary:  Value for Vinci at 2.56, who may be too clever for her younger fellow countrywoman.

Vinci 2.56 v Giorgi 1.60

TENNIS - Montreal, Canada ( Women's )

2016-07-28 02:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-07-27 21:41:14)

Market Information

Mirjana Lucic-Baroni was also born in Germany but plays for Croatia, she is 34 years old and ranked 55 in the world. Hard is not her best surface, winning just 49.6% of career matches. She made the final in Strasbourg in May but that was on clay. Apart from that she has not fared that well the rest of the year having lost in the first round on 6 occasions.

Angelique Kerber is having a very successful year having won her first Grand Slam title in January at the Australian Open and recently a runner-up at Wimbledon. She also won in Stuttgart on indoor clay in April. She plays well on all surfaces winning 66.2% of her matches on hard courts. Last year she won 4 tournaments and when Serena retires may well become world number 1.

Info: In the head to head record, Kerber leads 2-0 although their 2 meetings were in 2009 and 2011.

Court Surface:  Montreal Hard Court.

Summary:  Slight value for Kerber at 1.50.

Halep v Kerber

TENNIS - Montreal, Canada ( Women's )

2016-07-30 19:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-07-30 15:39:07)

Market Information

Simona Halep is 24 years old, from Romania and ranked 5th in the world although she will be rising up the rankings after this tournament. She has also had a good year winning the clay court tournament in Madrid in May. Then winning in her home country in July also on clay. She has under-performed in Grand Slams having been in only 1 final and 2 semi-finals. So she may not have as strong nerves as Kerber on the big points.

Angelique Kerber has had an outstanding year by winning her first Grand Slam in the Australian and reaching the final at Wimbledon. Earlier in the year she won on home soil in Stuttgart on indoor clay. She is 28 years old, ranker 35 years 11 on the year, having won more matches than any other player. She has won 66.5% of her career matches on hard courts and is able to raise her game on the big occasions. Being left-handed, she can be difficult for some players to cope with.

Info:  In head to heads Halep leads 3-2 but Kerber has won the last two matches, both this year. At Wimbledon she won in straight sets in the 1/4 final and also in the Fed Cup on clay, while Halep won in Toronto in 2015 on hard courts.

Summary:  The value is with Kerber at 2.57 in this evenly contested semi-final.

Halep 1.70 v Kerber 2.57

Keys v Halep

TENNIS - Montreal, Canada ( Women's Final )

2016-07-31 19:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-07-31 15:56:03)

Market Information

"Keys to C Minor faults in Halep's game and serve up A Major treat"

Madison Keys will return to the top 10 in the rankings and will rise to 7th if she wins the final in Montreal today. Her serve is her main advantage, firing down 40 aces in the 5 matches she has played so far. Surprisingly she has not reached a hard court final before even though she trained at the Chris Evert Academy in Florida on hard courts. In the previous 2 rounds she needed 3 sets to beat Pavlyuchenkova and Venus Williams but eventually won comfortably.

Simona Halep will rise to 3rd in the rankings if she wins and 4th if she loses against Keys. She is also in the final of the doubles and with all the running she does, may be a little tired. Last year in the Rogers Cup she made the final also but suffered heat exhaustion and had to retire in the third set against Bencic. This year she reached the final in in Rome on clay and won the grass court tournament in Birmingham in June.

Info:  In head to heads Halep leads 2-1, having won at Wimbledon this year and in Rome in 2014 .

Court Surface:  Montreal Hard Court.

Summary:  Slight value for Keys at 2.73, with her powerful serve.

Keys 2.73 v Halep 1.54
