2016-08-08 00:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-08-06 10:19:35)

Market Information

Serena Williams won the gold medal in London in 2012 and is strong favourite to repeat that success. Both the Williams sisters hold the Olympics in high regard and have won the womens doubles together on the last 2 occasions. It is a 64 player event which means to lift the gold medal Serrena has to win 6 matches, Starting with Gavrilova who wont be that easy as she seems to have no fear of the top players. She may play Cornet in the second round who has beaten her twice before but is badly out of form. Then probably Svitolina who should present some opposition. She may play her sister Venus in the semi-final or Muguruza who could be inspired having been born in nearby Venezuela. Kerber is a likely opponent in the final who she lost to in the Australian final but beat in the Wimbledon final. Madison Keys could spring a surprise and reach the final instead of Kerber.

Venus Williams is worth a small interest at 50/1 each-way to repeat her success of 2000 when she won gold. To win gold medals 16 years apart would be an amazing feat.

Serena Williams at 2.50 WIN.

Venus Williams at 51.00 EW.

In June she made the final in Eastbourne and also won 3 matches in Birmingham. In January she made the final in Sydney on hard courts, losing to Kuznetsova.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is from Russia, 25 years old and ranked 19th in the world. She has had a good year with a nice run at Wimbledon, losing to Serena in the 1/4 final. "Count on Konta to beat Kerber"

Johanna Konta has a new high ranking of 13 now and is going from strength to strength. In the previous round she came back well against Kuznetsova after losing the first set. The year started very well when she made the semi-final in the Australian. Then in July she won her first WTA title when winning in Stanford she beat Venus Williams in the final. Hard courts is her best surface winning 66.2% of career matches.

Angelique Kerber has had an excellent year, winning her first Grand Slam at the Australian and reaching the final at Wimbledon. Market Information

"Ukraine to reign supreme"

Elina Svitolina is from Ukraine, she is 21 years old and ranked 20th in the world. She beat Serena Williams in the previous round and will be pleased that rain washed out play yesterday to allow her to come down from that high. Players who have a big win will often lose in the next round because of mental let down. However Svitolina can cause another upset by beating Kvitova who has looked quite shaky this year. Svitolina won the tournament in KL in March beating Bouchard in the final, and before that had won 3 matches in Dubai beating Muguruza and Vandeveghe. She seems quite strong psychologically, although only 21.

Petra Kvitova is from the Czech Rep, she is 26 years old. She tends to be over-rated because of her 2 Wimbledon titles, but really has not played that well this year. Previously ranked 2 in the world she is now down to 14.

Info:  In head to head,  Kvitova leads 2-1 although their last meeting in 2015 went the distance.

Court Surface:  Btrazil hard court.

Summary:  Value up and coming Svitolina at 2.98 to win the match. Also for Svitolina at 2.50 to win the first set.

Svitolina 2.98 v Kvitova 1.55

Kvitova v Puig

TENNIS - Olympics ( Women's )

2016-08-12 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2016-08-12 09:56:36)

Market Information

Petra Kvitova is from the Czech Rep, 26 years old and ranked 14th in the world. She likes the big occasion, having won 2 Wimbledon titles but her form this year has only been average. In previous rounds she came back from a set down to beat Makarova and crushed Svitolina for the loss of just 2 games to make the semi.

Monica Puig is from Puerto Rica, she is 22 years old and ranked 34th. She continues to win and could yet spring another surprise in her semi-final match against Kvitova. The winner will be guaranteed gold or silver so nerves could play their part. Puig has played a lot of matches this year and is on 41 wins to 20 loses, although that includes qualifying matches as well. It is a measure of how much she has improved that she has had to qualify for a number of tournaments this year. In Sydney she won 3 qualifiers then 4 more matches to reach the final. In Eastbourne she won 2 qualifiers and again 4 more matches to make the final. Being from Puerto Rico and the underdog she should garner plenty of crowd support .

Info:  The players have not played each other before.

Court surface:  Brazil hard court.

Summary:  Slight value for Puig at 2.91.

Kvitova 1.54 v Puig 2.91

"Count on Madison to unlock the bronze door"

Petra Kvitova is from the Czech Rep, she is 26 years old and ranked 14th in the world. She is not consistent enough now and if her A-game is not working, she finds it difficult to play defensively.

Madison Keys is the youngest player ranked in the top 10 and is 30 and 9 on the year. In the semi-final, Kerber was just too consistent for her. Keys had reached the final in Montreal before the Olympics. beating some strong players along the way, including Vesnina , Venus Williams and Pavlychenkova. In June in Birmingham on grass she won her first WTA title when defeating Strycova in the final. She was also in the final in Rome (clay), losing to Serena. Her serve and forehand are powerful weapons and at 21 she can only improve.

Info:  In head to head, they are tied at 2-2 with Keys winning their last meeting in Rome this year. Kvitova won in New Haven last year in 3 sets but Keys beat her in the Australian.

Court surface:  Brazil hard court. ( Bronze medal match )

Summary:  Slight value for Keys at 1.75.

Market Information

"No clowning about from Sara"

Sara Errani is from Italy and she is 29 years old. She may not be quite as good as she used to be but she's not done yet. Although her best surface is clay she has still won 56.7% of her career matches on hard courts. In February this year she won the tournament in Dubai on hard and then won 3 matches in Charleston. Then came a mid-season slump when she lost 5 matches on the trot on her favored clay. However in recent weeks she has recovered quite well and in Rio she defeated Bertens and Strycova in the first 2 rounds.

Coco Vandeveghe is American, she is 22 years old and ranked 33 in the world. She is 22 and 13 on the year and has made great strides in the last 2 years. Her best surface is grass where her strong serve comes to the fore, winning a grass court tournament in Holland earlier in the year. She injured her right ankle in Stanford in July and was only able to play in the doubles at the Olympics where she lost in the 2nd round. She may not be fully recovered so a retirement is possible. Some bookmakers require 1 set to be completed.

Info:  In the head to head record, Errani won there only meeting in 2012.

Court Surface:  Cincinnati hard court

Summary:  In spite of home advantage for Vandeveghe the value is with Errani at 2.92.

"Monica to have the Midas touch"

Monica Puig is having an incredible year, culminating in gold at the Olympics. She won 6 matches to win the gold medal, beating Muguruza, Kvitova and Kerber in the final. In the first 4 rounds none of her opponents scored more than 3 games in a set. And this wasn't just a one-off fluke, she has been playing well all year. In January she made the final in Sydney, beating Stosur and Bencic along the way. Then in June she reached the final in Eastbourne in which she lost to Cibulkova. She is seeded 32 and should progress to the 3rd round where she may meet Muguruza who won the French but has done little since. Puig is on the opposite side of the draw to Serena Williams, so each-way part of the bet is value.

Summary:  bet "Puig" ew at 66/1.

"Madison opening all the right doors"

Madison Keys is American and entered the top 10 for the first time this year at number 9. At the Olympics she came close to winning a medal but was denied by Kvitova in the bronze medal match. She has won 34 matches this year for the loss of only 11 and with home advantage, hopes to win her first Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows. In Rome she made the final, beating Kvitova and Muguruza along the way and was again in the final in Birmingham and Montreal. She is in the third 1/4 of the draw in which she is scheduled to meet fellow America Vandeweghe in the third round. She is on the opposite side to Serena Williams and at 12.5/1 to reach the final looks good value/

Summary:  bet Keys ew at 25/1.
