"Alize in Wonderland"

Garbine Muguruza is Spanish although born in Venezuela, she is aged 23 and ranked 7th in the world. Last year she was W35 and L20 but played better on clay than hard courts. She is a bit over-rated on hard courts by virtue of winning her first Grand Slam in the French. Alize Cornet is from France, aged 26 and ranked 41st in the world. Market Information

"Cornet to Czech Pliskova's progress"

Karolina Pliskova will carry the Czech flag now that her fellow countrywoman Petra Kvitiva is sadly out of action after a knife attack. Pliskova looks unstoppable at the moment with her lethal serve coming down from a great height. She has only dropped one set so far in this tournament, against Vinci but then won the next two 6-2 6-2. She rarely gets injured and after her appearance in the US Open final last year, her confidence will be at an all time high.

Alize Cornet is from Nice in France, aged 26 and ranked 41st in the world. She had an easy win over Muguruza in the semi when Muguruza retired in the 1st set with a thigh strain. Cornet has been as high as 11th in the world and on the strength of this tournament looks like regaining that previous form. Generally she plays better on clay but last year her hard court form was superior. She tends to be very emotional but if she can control herself in the final she has a reasonable chance of winning. Certainly she will be the fresher of the 2.

Court Surface:  Brisbane hard court.

Head to Head:  Cornet won their only meeting but that was back in 2013.

Summary:  Slight value for Cornet at 3.15.

Johanna Konta was born in Australia but is British now. Her parents are from Hungary and have lived in Eastbourne for some time. She split with her Spanish coaches Carril and Garcia in December and has now appointed Wim Fissette who is from Belgium to be her main coach.
