"Experience to triumph over youth"

Elina Vesnina is a Russian player, born in Ukraine. She is 30 years old and ranked 15th in the world. She has been ranked a little higher at 13th and has 3 career titles. She is better on clay than hard courts, although these courts play a bit quicker than outdoor clay. She has played well this year especially at Indian Wells where she won the tournament. She beat Kerber, Venus and Kuznetsova in the final. But that effort, she lost in the 1st round in Miami to Tomljanovic. She has only played once in this tournament in 2013 and has been playing Fed Cup over the weekend.

Daria Kasatkina is also Russian, aged 19 and ranked 29th in the world. She is making her debut in this tournament but should be full of confidence having recently won in Charleston on green clay. However she had an easy draw and was odds-on in all 6 of her matches. At 19 she is probably improving rapidly although going into Charleston she had lost 3 times in opening rounds. She is also playing in the Fed Cup for Russia but only in a doubles match.

Court surface:  Stuttgart indoor clay.

Head to head:  The players have not played each other before.

Summary:  Value for Vesnina at 2.75.

She started 2017 with two 1st round loses, followed by two rounds to the good in the Australian Open, In February in Dubai she won 4 matches to reach the semi-final. She won two rounds in Charleston on green clay but then came up against clay court specialist Siegemund. Simona Halep is from Romania, aged 25 and ranked 5th in the world. She has been ranked as high as 2nd  and she also plays very well on clay. Halep received a bye in this tournament and fared better than 2 of the other 3 byes (Kerber and Muguruza) by beating Strycova in her first match.

Court surface:  Stuttgart Indoor Clay.

Head to head:  Sevastova leads 3-2 but her 3 wins came in 2009 to 2011. She suffered a double bagel loss to Halep (6-0 6-0) last year in Bucharest. However Bucharest is not the easiest place to play a Romanian, just ask Konta.

Halep v Siegemund - Stuttgart Open ( Women's )

TENNIS - Stuttgart Open, Germany ( Women's )

2017-04-29 18:30:00 (This report was created at 2017-04-29 10:50:17)

"Laura to drop-shot her way to victory"

Simona Halep is from Romania, aged 25 and ranked 5th in the world. She is 10 and 4 on the year and being from Romania, where most of the courts are clay, she plays her best tennis on this surface. 2017 started slowly for her with a first round loss to Rogers in the Australian. Then in St.Petersburg, after winning the first round she had to withdraw due to a knee problem. She will have to do a lot of running in this match.

Laura Siegemund was born near Stuttgart and enjoys strong support from the crowd. She is ranked 49th in the world but would be higher if there were rankings just for clay. She has an unusual style of play with amazing drop-shots from all over the court. In the previous round Pliskova was unable to deal with this. Siegemund was a surprise finalist here last year but it would be no surprise to see her there again. However Halep is very quick and will easily run down the drop-shots. Siegemund had a good run in Charleston, reaching the semi.

Court surface:  Stuttgart Indoor clay.

Head to heads:  Siegemund won their only match easily in this tournament last year.

Summary:  Value for Siegemund at 3.20.

1.40 Halep v Siegemund 3.20
