Brazil v Croatia

World Cup 2014

2014-06-12 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-12 00:02:05)

Brazil v Croatia - (Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo)

THERE HAS BEEN A VERY SMALL MARKET MOVE ON THE DRAW

Brazil have no injury or suspension worries. There was no places in the squad for midfielders Moura (31 caps/5 goals) and Lucas (24 caps), strikers Robinho (92 caps/27 goals) and Pato (27 caps/10 goals).

Croatia are without striker Mandzukic (49 caps/14 goals) who is suspended, while left-back Pranjic (49 caps) will under-go a late fitness test. There was no places in the squad for defender Simunic (105 caps), midfielder Kranjcar (81 caps/16 goals), striker Kalinic (20 caps/6 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

Brazil: Cesar, Alves, Luiz, Thiago Silva, Marcelo, Gustavo, Paulinho, Oscar, Hulk, Neymar, Fred.

Croatia: Pletikosa, Srna, Lovren, Corluka, Pranjic, Vukojevic, Modric, Perisic, Rakitic, Kovacic, Olic.

Referee: Yuichi Nishimura (Japan).

Info:  Brazil begin their home World Cup 2014 campaign against Croatia in Sao Paulo which starts a month-long carnival of football and they will be hopeful of starting the tournament with a win. I feel Brazil will need to score early in this match as the crowd are bound to get restless if they under performed at any stage and the Brazilians were booed off last week in the 1-0 win against Serbia in their last warm-up game. Croatia could not have asked for a more tough start to their World Cup campaign, especially with their recent lack of goals, going up against a rock-solid Brazilian defense It means Croatia may find it hard to break into the Brazil penalty box. Croatia back into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Australia but they struggled against Switzerland and Mali in previous warm up games. It could be a really tough night for Croatia. I expect Brazil to win maybe 1-0 or 2-0 and to win to nil, also Neymar to score as he's also the Brazil penalty taker, possibly a Croatia red-card.

Mexico v Cameroon

World Cup 2014

2014-06-13 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-13 00:17:19)

Mexico v Cameroon - (Estadio das Dunas, Natal)

MARKET MOVE ON THE DRAW

Mexico are missing defenders Torres Nilo (38 caps) and Magallon (54 caps), midfielders Zavala (30 caps), Sinha (59 caps/6 goals), Arce (47 caps/7 goals), Torrado (146 caps) and Barrera (57 caps/6 goals), striker Bravo (65 caps/15 goals) who were all left out of the World Cup squad.

Cameroon will give striker Eto'o (117 caps/56 goals - top scorer) a late fitness test, while there was no place in the squad for goalkeeper Kameni (70 caps) and striker Idrissou (39 caps/6 goals),

Possible Line-ups:

Mexico: Ochoa, Guardado, Rodriguez, Marquez, Salcido, Vazquez, Herrera, Dos Santos, Aquino, Pulido, Jimenez.

Cameroon: Itandje, Chedjou, Djeugoue, N'koulou, Bedimo, Mbia, Song, Makoun, Matip, Eto'o, Webo.

Referee:  Wilmar Roldan (Colombia).

Info:  Mexico come into their World Cup campaign after suffering back-to-back 1-0 defeats after previously being unbeaten in their first seven games under coach Miguel Herrera. They have also lost more games than any other team at World Cup (24). Key striker Javier Hernandez has gone 9 matches without a goal for Mexico, his longest run at international level but striker Oribe Peralta has scored 8 goals in his last 8 games. Cameroon have only won one of their last 13 World Cup games (1-0 v Saudi Arabia in 2002), drawing four and losing eight. They are also struggling for goals of late and no Cameroon player scored more than two goals in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Cameroon arrived late in Brazil, just four days before their opening game, after refusing to board their flight until a dispute over bonuses was paid.

I expect it to be a very tight game, we could defintely see a lack of goals & a point apiece for both teams, it may not be pretty game to watch.

Spain v Netherlands

World Cup 2014

2014-06-13 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-13 01:15:19)

Spain v Holland - (Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador)

MARKET MOVE ON SPAIN

Spain without goalkeeper Valdes (20 caps) and winger Navas (34 caps) who are out injured, also there was no place in the squad for defenders Arbeloa (56 caps) and Monreal (16 caps), strikers Llorente (23 caps/7 goals), Negredo (20 cap/10 goals) and Soldado (12 caps/7 goals).

Holland missing defender Van der Viel (37 goals), midfielder Strootman (25 caps), winger Van der Vaart (109 caps/25 goals) who are all out injured, also there was no place in the squad for goalkeeper Stekelenberg (54 caps), defender Willems (11 caps), midfielder Schaars (23 caps).

Possible Line-ups:

Spain: Casillas, Juanfran, Ramos, Pique, Alba, Alonso, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Costa,

Holland: Cillessen, Jaanmat, De Vrij, Vlaar, Martins Indi, De Jong, Blind, De Guzman, Sneider, Robben, Van Persie.

Referee:  Nicola Rizzoli (Italy).

Info:   Spain are the current World Cup holders and are looking to win their fourth straight major tournament. They play Holland in the tie of the group stages and a repeat of the last World Cup final. Spain will control possession as ever and be patient in their attempts to break down the Dutch side down and hopefully grab a goal, hold on to the lead for a vital win, 3 precious points and take early contol in Group C. On the other side we have Holland who under coach Louis van Gaal are renowned for his Mourinho like astute tactics and he will have a clear plan in mind to limit the space for Spain's creative players and as usual they will be a tough unit to break down what should be an organised Holland team. Spain have won 21 of their last 25 matches in the World Cup, while Holland have won 23 of their last 25 matches in the World Cup. Like the World Cup Final 4 years ago, I expect there not to be alot between the two teams. Spain will try to outplay Holland but the Dutch know how to defend. I can see there being Under 2.5 goals here and a draw would not surprise me and deep down, both coaches would be happy with a point.

Chile v Australia

World Cup 2014

2014-06-13 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-13 12:41:12)

Chile v Australia - (Arena Pantanal, Cuiaba)

MARKET MOVE ON CHILE

Chile will give playmaker Vidal (54 caps/8 goals) a late fitnes test after his operation on his knee last month, also there was no place in the squad for midfielder Fernandez (60 caps/14 goals), Gonzalez (48 caps) and Pizarro (40 caps), striker Suazo (60 caps/21 goals).

Australia have a doubt with midfielder Bresciano (74 caps/13 goals), but there was not place in the squad for defenders Wilkshire (80 caps), Carney (48 caps) and North (41 caps), midfileder Holman (63 caps/10 goals), strikers Kennedy (36 caps/17 goals), Kruse (28 caps) and Thompson (54 caps/28 goals), also goalkeeper Schwarzer (109 caps) and defender/captain Neill (96 caps) retired from international football.

Possible Line-ups:

Chile: Bravo, Jara, Medel, Mena, Isla, Vidal, Diaz, Beausejour, Sanchez, Vargas, Fernandez.

Australia: Ryan, Franjic, Spiranovic, McGowan, Davidson, Milligan, Jedinak, Bresciano, Halloran, Cahill, Oar.

Referee: Noumandiez Doue (Ivory Coast).

Info:  Chile face Australia for the first time since 1974. Chile have a great attacking quality and many neutrals are looking forward to their style of play. They are a team in good form, albeit there is a slight concern with their defence. They may have won 9 of their World Cup qualifying matches, but lost 6, more than any other team to make it to the World Cup. Although they did win 2-0 against England at Wembley. Australia new coach Ange Postecoglou named a fairly inexperienced squad for the leaving out Luke Wilkshire, while Josh Kennedy missed out on a place in the 23-man squad due to a back injury. Most pundits expect Australia to crash out of the competition at the group stage, so the approach is likely to be to frustrate teams and then hit them on the break, but it's a team that will struggle for goals thats for sure. For that reason I see nothing other than a win for Chile as their attacking quality will be enough to see off such an inexperienced Australia side. Chile will want to get off to a flyer in this game knowing they face Spain and Holland after. I fancy Chile to win to nil, possibly by a couple of goals.

GAIS v Oster

Sweden Superettan

2014-06-14 15:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-14 08:58:27)

MARKET MOVE ON OSTER

GAIS MISSING 9 PLAYERS!!!!

GAIS are without defender Ekunde (4 apps) and midfielder Drugge (11 apps) who are both suspended, also defender Gustafsson (9 apps), midfielders Oversjo (9 apps) and Andersson (8 apps), strikers Tornblad (5 apps/1 goal), Vanneryr (3 apps) and Jonsson (7 apps) are out injured, while striker Krasniqi (2 apps) is away on international duty.

Colombia v Greece

FBINT World Cup 2014-14

2014-06-14 18:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-14 09:43:51)

Colombia v Greece - (Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST COLOMBIA

Colombia without midfielder Guarin (49 caps/4 goals) who is suspended, also striker Falcao (51 caps/20 goals), midfielders Valencia (12 caps) and Ramirez (29 caps), defender Perea (75 caps) are all out injured and will miss the tournament.

Greece will give late fitness tests defender Papastathopoulos (47 caps) and striker Mitroglou (32 caps/8 goals), while there was no place in the squad for defenders Spyropoulos (35 caps) and Papadopoulos (36 caps), midfielder Ninis (31 caps), striker Papadopoulos (23 caps/2 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

Colombia: Ospina, Zuniga, Yepes, Zapata, Armero, Cuadrado, Aguilar, Rodriguez, Sanchez, Gutierez, Martinez.

Greece: Karnezis, Torosidis, Papasthathopoulos, Manolas, Holebas, Salpingidis, Katsouranis, Maniatis, Kone, Samaras, Mitroglou.

Referee: Mark Geiger (USA).

Info: Colombia are ranked 8th in the world and are on familiar territory as well, so they will be confident of a good start. Despite losing key striker Falcao, they have sufficient resources. Finishing 2nd in the South American qualification is no mean feat and they boasted the best defensive record in South American qualifying, conceding just 13 times in 16 games, and they have lost only two of their last 20 games. Greece had to qualify for the finals via Play-offs, with a 4-2 aggregate victory over Romania, also they have won just one out of six games in two previous World Cup finals. Greece were unbeaten in three warm-up games, with a win against Bolivia and two 0-0 draws against Portugal and Nigeria. This is an indication of how this hard-working Greek side are likely to set-up, looking to frustrate and shut-out opponents.

Colombia are a quick, energetic side who could be dark horses in the World Cup and are likely to prove too much for an ageing Greek side tonight. I dont really understand the moves against Colombia but it suits me as the odds of 2.00 on Colombia are fantastic value now!

Uruguay v Costa Rica

World Cup 2014

2014-06-14 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-14 10:19:41)

Uruguay v Costa Rica - (Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST URUGUAY

Uruguay have a major doubt with star striker Suarez (77 caps/38 goals), while there was no place in the World Cup squad for defender Scotti (40 caps) and striker Eguren (54 caps/7 goals).

Costa Rica will give fitness tests to defenders Umana (83 caps) and Diaz (62 caps), while top scorer Alvaro Saborio (93 caps/31 goals) is ruled out of the tournament along with defenders Salvatierra (26 caps) and Oviedo (26 caps), midfielders Hernandez (39 caps/6 goals) and Herrera (25 caps).

Possible Line-ups:

Uruguay: Muslera, Pereira, Lugano, Godin, Caceres, Rios, Lodeiro, Stuani, Rodriguez, Forlan, Cavani.

Costa Rica: Navas, Gamboa, Umana, Gonzalez, Acosta, Diaz, Bolanos, Borges, Tejeda, Campbell, Ruiz.

Referee: Felix Brych (Germany).

Info: Uruguay will be desperate to get three points knowing they face England and Italy after this fixture. Uruguay come to Brazil having won their two pre-World Cup friendlies, but that included an unconvincing 1-0 win over Northern Ireland. A big blow is losing Suarez but he'll be saved for England and Italy, so Cavani will form a partnership in attack tonight with Forlan. Uruguay have the third oldest squad in the tournament. Costa Rica have only won one game in five since the turn of the year and don’t come to Brazil in a great deal of form, while Costa Rica have never beaten Uruguay in eight attempts, losing six times and drawing twice. They will look to exploit what is a weak Uruguay backline. Uruguay play attacking football, suited to the South American heat and will provide a tough test for all of their Group D opponents, even without Suarez tonight I only see a Uruguay victory, strange market moves for Costa Rica although I wouldn't be surprised to see them score tonight.

England v Italy

FBINT World Cup 2014-14

2014-06-15 00:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-14 10:50:32)

England v Italy - (Arena Amazonia, Manaus)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST ITALY

England missing winger Oxlaide-Chamberlain (15 caps/3 goals), also defender Walker (10 caps) and winger Walcott (36 caps/5 goals) miss the tournament through injury and there was no place in the squad for midfielder Carrick (31 caps) and striker Defoe (55 caps/19 goals).

Italy without defender De Sciglio (11 caps), while goalkeeper Buffon (140 caps) will have a late fitness today. While there was no place in the squad for defenders Ranocchia (13 caps), Maggio (34 caps), Criscito (22 caps) and Balzaretti (16 caps), strikers Rossi (30 caps/7 goals), Gilardino (57 caps/19 goals) and Giovinco (17 caps). Also midfielder Montolivio (58 caps) withdrew from the squad through injury.

Possible Line-ups:

England: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Gerrard, Henderson, Welbeck, Lallana, Sturridge, Rooney

Italy: Buffon, Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini, Abate, De Rossi, Pirlo, Verratti, Candreva, Marchisio, Balotelli.

Referee: Bjorn Kuipers (Holland).

Info: England get their World Cup campaign underway against the team that knocked them out of Euro 2012. England come into the World Cup on the back of two draws and one win in their pre-World Cup friendlies, The emerging talents of Barkley, Sterling and Lallana will be keen to carry their club form into the World Cup, even still England face a tough task in getting out of what has been dubbed the ‘group of death. Italy World Cup preparations were rocked by two disappointing draws against Rep of Ireland and Luxembourg and an injury to key midfielder Montolivo, but at least Italy did however manage their first win since 2013 with a 5-3 victory over Fluminense last weekend. The Italian pundits and press were very angry that striker Rossi did not make the cut. Odds of 25/1 suggest this is an ageing weak Italian squad for some time. Tongiht is set to be an intriguing encounter as both teams sweat it out in the humidity of the Amazon, desperate to get off to a winning start or perhaps more importantly to avoid defeat. I expect a very tight game and a draw and 0-0 would not be a surprise and may suit both managers.

MARKET MOVES AGAINST NEW YORK RED BULLS

NEW YORK RED BULLS MISSING 6 REGULAR PLAYERS!!!

New York Red Bulls are without goalkeeper Luis Robles (15 apps), defenders Jamison Olave (12 apps) and Roy Miller (11 apps), midfielders Tim Cahill (7 apps/2 goals) and Dax McCarty (14 apps/2 goals), striker Thierry Henry (12 apps/3 goals).

2014-06-15 03:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-14 14:35:18)

Ivory Coast v Japan - (Arena Pernambuco, Recife)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST THE IVORY COAST

Ivory Coast will give a late fitness test to captain Yaya Toure (83 caps/16 goals) but coach Sabri Lamouchi admits not all his players are "100% fit". Player missing from the World Cup squad are defender Tiene (87 caps), midfielder Romaric (47 caps/5 goals), strikers Doumbia (21 caps), Traore (8 caps/4 goals) and Kone (39 caps/9 goals).

Japan captain Hasebe (78 caps) is fit after a long-term knee problem, also defenders Yoshida (41 caps) and Uchida (68 caps) have returned from lengthy absences. But there was no places in the 23-man squad for defender Komano (78 caps), midfielder Nakamura (68 caps), striker Maeda (33 caps/10 goals),

Possible Line-ups:

Ivory Coast: Barry, Aurier, Kolo Toure, Zokora, Boka, Tiote, Yaya Toure, Serey Die, Kalou, Drogba, Gervinho.

Japan: Kawashima; Uchida, Yoshida, Konno, Nagatomo; Hasebe, Endo; Okazaki, Honda, Kagawa; Kakitani.

Referee: Enrique Osses (Chile).

Info:  Ivory Coast have been to two previous tournaments but have never progressed from the group stage and this is surely the last chance for their golden generation, who will be looking to get their campaign off to a winning start, but they come up against a talented Japan team who many are tipping to do well in Brazil. The Ivory Coast are blessed with several well known household names and have plenty of muscle & power. Japan have been to every World Cup since 1998 but they have kept only one clean sheet in their last nine matches. However Japan have won all of their last five matches, including a 3-2 victory over a good Belgium side, and they will be looking to carry this form into this group opener. They have plenty of pace and technically gifted players such as Honda and Kagawa, also proven goal scorer Okazaki (38 international goals). This has all the makings to be an exciting game and one both teams will be desperate to win in what looks a very open group in which any of the teams could progress to the next stage, Ivory Coast are favourites tonight but I can't really split them and I could a draw, maybe 1-1 or 2-2.

Switzerland v Ecuador

World Cup 2014

2014-06-15 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-15 10:32:45)

Switzerland v Ecuador - (Estadio Nacional, Brasilia)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST SWITZERLAND

Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has a fully fit squad to choose.

Ecuador without key midfielder Castillo (81 caps/10 goals) who was ruled out of the tournament on Monday with a knee injury. While midfielder Noboa (42 cap) is a doubt. There was no place in the squad for defender Campos (20 apps) and midfielder Guerron (18 caps).

Possible Line-ups:

Switzerland: Benaglio, Rodriguez, Schar, Djourou, Lichtsteiner, Xhaka, Inler, Stocker, Shagiri, Behrami, Drmic.

Ecuador: Dominguez, Paredes, Guagua, Erazo, Ayovi, A.Valencia, Noboa, Gruezo, Mentero, Caicedo, E.Valencia.

Referee: Ravshan Irmatov (Uzbekistan).

Info: Switzerland are notoriously tight at the back, so there may be few, if any, goals in Brasilia tongiht. These teams have never met before but Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side were unbeaten in World Cup qualification, winning seven and drawing three of their 10 qualifiers, also Switzerland have conceded only one goal in their last seven World Cup games. Switzerland are undefeated in their last 11 matches in FIFA World Cup. Ecuador scraped into the competition without the need for a playoff due to their better goal difference than Uruguay and their recent display against England recently will have boosted morale in the squad. However, away from the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, the South American outfit struggled, though they could fair better in the humid conditions in Brazil than their European counterparts. Both teams are evenly matched and although Swizterland have just the better squad, Ecuador will favour the heat and the humidity more. This should be a closely matched game with not many goals, I wouldnt be surpised to see a 0-0 or 1-1 draw, it depends on who scores the first goal on how the the rest of the game will plan out.

France v Honduras

World Cup 2014

2014-06-15 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-15 11:07:29)

France v Honduras - (Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre)

SMALL MARKET MOVES AGAINST FRANCE

France have no injuries or suspensions to worry about but star man Ribery (81 caps/16 goals) was forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury, while there was no place in the squad for defenders Abidal (67 caps), Clichy (20 caps) and Rami (26 caps), winger Nasri (41 caps), striker Gignac (17 caps/4 goals).

Honduras have a full squad avaliable. There was no place in the squad for defenders Peralta (20 caps), Leveron (22 caps) and Norales (28 caps), midfielder Alvarez (54 caps), strikers Welcome (32 caps/5 goals) and Rojas (23 caps/4 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

France: Lloris, Sagna, Koscielny, Sakho, Evra, Pogba, Cabaye, Matuidi, Valbuena, Griezmann, Benzema.

Honduras: Valladares, Beckeles, Bernandez, Figueroa, Izaguirre, Najar, Garrido, Palacios, Espinoza, Bengtson, Costly.

Referee: Sandro Ricci (Brazil).

Info: France finally made it through to the World Cup finals via the play-offs and will be looking to erase the demons of 2010 when Raymond Domenech’s squad fell apart. This time coach Didier Deschamps dropped Nasri and then lost Ribery to injury, so will rely on the likes of Pogba, Matuidi, Greizmann & Valbuena. France have slipped up at recent World Cups even though they have unquestionable quality all over the pitch. Honduras lost two out of their last three warm-up matches to Turkey and Israel but did manage to snatch an impressive draw against England. Manager Luis Fernando Suarez will be missing the services of Rangers midfielder Peralta who was ruled out due to a thigh injury. Honduras do have a great defensive record at major tournaments and shut England out in their final warm up match, so may prove difficult to break down. I fully expect France to get off to a winning start but may not have a straight forward evening and would take a 1-0 win to start their campaign.

Argentina v Bosnia & Herz

World Cup 2014

2014-06-15 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-15 11:57:07)

Argentina v Bosnia & Herz - (Estadio do Maracana, Rio de Janeiro)

SMALL MARKET MOVE ON ARGENTINA

Argentina will give a late test to striker Higuain (36 caps/21 goals). Also there was no place in the 23-man squad for defenders Otamendi (16 caps) and Coloccini (39 caps), midfielder Banega (24 apps). Neverless, this is a very strong squad with no major players missing.

Bosnia & Herz playmaker Salihovic (42 caps/5 goals) will have late fitness test after a minor injury otherwise they have no selection worries. Although there was no place in the squad for defender Pandza (21caps), midfielders Zahirovic (20 caps) and Rahimic (40 caps).

Possible Line-ups:

Argentina: Romero, Zabaleta, Fernandez, Garay, Rojo, Gago, Mascherano, Di Maria, Messi, Higuain, Aguero.

Bosnia & Herz: Begovic, Mujdza, Spahic, Bicakcic, Kolasinac, Hajrovic, Besic, Pjanic, Misimovic, Lulic, Dzeko.

Referee: Joel Aguilar (El Salvador).

Info:   Argentina go into this World Cup as one of the main contenders to win and it is not hard to see why, with the attacking options they have at their disposal in Messi, Aguero, Di Maria and Higuain who have all had fantastic seasons at their clubs. On South American soil they will be a major threat and should have an easy task of winning a relatively easy group. Argentina scored 35 times in World Cup qualifying. Bosnia & Herz are the only debutants at the 2014 World Cup, but they scored 30 goals in their qualifying group, winning the group ahead of Greece. Despite having a tough start, they will be confident of progessing to the next stage as they have Nigeria and Iran as the other two teams in Group F. Bosnia & Herz coach Safet Susic has set up a tough, hard working team who could spring a few surprises in Brazil.

Much is expected from Argentina this World Cup, so the world is awaiting this evening, pressure is on them and star man Messi who is yet to set a World Cup alight. Both teams know this is their toughest group game tonight. I expect Argentina to win but in a tough game for them.

Germany v Portugal

2014-06-16 18:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-16 08:46:43)

(Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador)

SMALL MARKET MOVE ON PORTUGAL

Germany have a doubt with Schweinsteiger (102 caps/23 goals). While there were no places in the 23-man squad for defenders Jansen (45 caps), Schmelzer (16 caps) and Westermann (27 caps), midfielder Bender (17 caps/4 goals), striker Gomez (59 caps/25 goals). Also midfielder Reus (21 caps/7 goals) was forced to withdraw from the squad through injury.

Portugal have no injury worries. Missing from the World Cup squad are defender Rolando (19 caps), midfielders Quaresma (35 caps) and Danny (23 caps/4 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

Germany: Neuer, Boateng, Hummels, Mertesacker, Howedes, Khedira, Lahm, Ozil, Podolski, Muller, Gotze.

Portugal: Patricio, Pereira, Pepe, Alves, Coentrao, Carvalho, Moutinho, Meireles, Varela, Almeida, Ronaldo.

Referee: Milorad Mazic (Serbia).

Info: Germany go into this World Cup as one of the favorites to win the tournament. They have reached the semi-finals in each of the last two World Cups (finishing 4th in 2006 and 3rd in 2010) and will hope to reach their first final since 2002 and will be looking for their first major tournament victory since their win at Euro 1996. Germany come to Brazil with only one recognised striker in 36 year old Miroslav Klose. Portugal needed the play-off route to book their World Cup ticket but since beating Sweden home and away to ensure their place in these finals they have looked pretty slick and their only defeat in their last 15 matches was against Brazil in a friendly in September last year. All the pressure is on Ronaldo to get Portugal out of Group G which has been marked by some as the ‘group of death’ with all four teams in the top 40. A fanatastic group game in store for the neutrals, Germany are favourites but the odds on Portugal have dropped overnight. I expect an open game and for Portugal all eyes will be on the fitness of star man Ronaldo. Germany at 2.10 are now looking value, though I like the draw here.

Iran v Nigeria

World Cup 2014

2014-06-16 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-16 09:25:04)

(Arena da Baixada, Curitiba)

MARKET MOVE ON NIGERIA

Iran have a fitness doubt with defender Beikzadeh (17 caps). There was no place in the squad for defender Zare (23 caps), midfielders Reza Khalatbari (60 caps/5 goals), Jabbari (31 caps/3 goals) and Nouri (27 caps/4 goals), striker Rezaei (50 caps/11 goals).

Nigeria are without defender Echiejile (42 caps) who withdrew from the squad through injury, also there was no places in the squad for midfielders Mba (21 caps/5 goals) and Joel Obi (12 caps), striker Obinna (48 caps/13 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

Iran: Davari, Beitashour, Hosseini, Sadeghi, Pooladi, Nekounam, Teymourian, Haddadifa, Shojaei, Dejagah, Ghoochannejhad.
Nigeria: Enyeama, Ambrose, Oboabona, Omerou, Oshaniwa, Mikel, Onazi, Musa, Moses, Odemwingie, Emenike.
Referee: Carlos Vera (Ecuador).

Info: Iran are the top-ranked side in Asia with an impressive defensive record and a manager with plenty of tactical acumen in former Man Utd assistant and Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz. But Iran have scored just 6 goals in 9 World Cup games and have conceded 18 goals and they are the rank outsiders of all the teams in Brazil and will do well to take anything from games against Nigeria, Argentina and Bosnia-Herz. Nigeria are hoping to extend their undefeated streak in international matches against Iran, in a game with there is no room for error as World Cup favourites Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina await them after this opening game. The Nigerian have had disputes with the Nigerian Football Federation over appearance fees but the problems have been resolved. Nigeria will be desperate to win this and rightly so are hot favourites. Nigeria failed to find a way past either Greece or USA in their last two friendlies and may struggle to break down a resolute and determined Iran defence. This could be a frustrating game for Nigeria who really need all three points but at odds of 1.95, I fancy them to nick the win tonight.

Ghana v USA

World Cup 2014

2014-06-16 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-16 11:27:40)

Ghana v USA - (Estadio das Dunas, Natal)

MARKET MOVE ON GHANA

Ghana have their strongest squad available.

USA have no injury or suspension worries. But they are missing top scorer Landon Donovan (156 caps/57 goals) who was left out of the squad, also there was no place in the 23-man squad defenders Goodson (46 caps), Parkhurst (25 caps), Onyewu (69 caps) and Spector (34 caps), midfielders Edu (46 caps), Kljekstan (46 caps), Feilhaber (41 caps) and Holden (25 caps), striker Johnson (63 caps/19 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

Ghana: Kwarasey, Afful, Boye, Mensah, Opare, Muntari, A.Ayew, Essien, Boateng, Asamoah, Gyan.
USA: Howard, Johnson, Besler, Cameron, Beasley, Beckerman, Bradley, Jones, Bedoya, Dempsey, Altidore.
Referee: Jonas Eriksson (Sweden).

Info: Ghana have beaten the USA 2-1 at the last two World Cups (2006 group stage and 2010 second round) and will see see this as a must win game with tough matches against Germany and Portugal to follow. Ghana are considered by some to be the best African team in the competition and will be hoping to at least match their impressive showing from the 2010 when missed penalty denied them a semi-final place. USA have only kept two clean sheets in their last 23 World Cup matches but they won a national record 12 straight matches in 2013. They come into this World Cup in a bit of form as they have won three games on the bounce with their latest being a 2-1 success over Nigeria last Saturday. They come to Brazil in great confidence as number 13 in the FIFA rankings and topped CONCACAF's qualifying sector with ease. This is a must win game for both but at the same time a game neither will want to lose, Ghana are a fast and powerful team with a full squad, while USA are missing some key players - I see it being a tight game and not much in it but at odds of 2.60 I like Ghana.

Belgium v Algeria

World Cup 2014

2014-06-17 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-16 22:43:58)

(Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte)

SMALL MARKET MOVES AGAINST BELGIUM

Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has no injury concerns. There was no place in the 23-man squad for defenders Van Damme (31 caps) and Gillet (20 caps), while midfielder Simons (93 caps) has retired and striker Benteke (18 caps/6 goals) misses the tournament through injury.
Algeria will give a late test to midfielder Yebda (25 caps), otherwise coach Vahid Halilhodzic has a full squad. There was no place in the World Cup squad for midfielders Guedioura (28 caps) and Kadir (23 caps), also striker Djebbour (33 caps/5 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

Belgium: Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany, Van Buyten, Vertonghen, Witsel, Fellaini, Mertens, Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku.
Algeria: Zemmampouche, Mandi, Cadamuro, Bougherra, Ghoulam, Lacen, Bentaleb, Taider, Soudani, Feghouli, Slimani.

Referee: Marco Rodriguez (Mexico).

Info: Belgium come into this World Cup with high hopes and many people saying they are dark horses and have a great chance of going along way in Brazil. They breezed through their qualifying group with relative ease, going unbeaten and winning 8 games in the process. Overall Belgium have an impressive array of attacking talent including Chelsea star man Eden Hazard and have the ability to pose a threat to any team. Algeria edged through qualifying by reaching the finals as a result of an away goal in their 3-3 draw with Burkina Faso in the playoffs. They had the quality to surprise a number of teams this summer, but will need to improve their performances in Brazil and lack any real class in their squad and know they face a tough task to get anything out of Belgium, Russia and South Korea in Group H. It's a tough ask for Algeria. While the conditions may suit Algeria, Belgium's quality in depth should see them come away with a big 3 points to kickstart their World Cup.

Brazil v Mexico

World Cup 2014

2014-06-17 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-16 23:21:33)

(Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza)

Brazil will assess striker Hulk (36 caps/9 goals) tomorrow after he limped off in the opening game, otherwise it is expected coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will pick the same team that beat Croatia.

Mexico have reported no injury problems from their opening game, so coach Miguel Herrera could stick with the same line-up that beat Cameroon in their first game.

Possible Line-ups:

Brazil: Cesar, Alves, Luiz, Silva, Marcelo, Gustavo, Paulinho, Oscar, Willian, Neymar, Fred.
Mexico: Ochoa, Aguilar, Moreno, Marquez, Rodriguez, Layun, Guardado, Vazquez, Herrera, Dos Santos, Peralta.

Referee: Cuneyt Cakir (Turkey).

Info: Brazil after a shaky start to the match, eventually had enough in the tank to beat a resolute Croatia who came to play rather than sit back and defend. After Marcelo’s own goal early on, Brazil had Neymar and Oscar to thank as they came through when others were under par. Brazil will want to produce a performance typical of their form pre-tournament to give their fans confidence going into their third match. Mexico would have been thinking that they were cursed at half time during the game with Cameroon with two perfectly legitimate goals chalked off by poor decisions by the linesman. However they did enough to win the game 1-0 and were quite comfortable against a Cameroon side lacking real quality. Peralta scored, making that his seventh goal in nine competitive games for Mexico. Once again Brazil are favourites and they beat Mexico in this stadium last year in the Confederations Cup. I think it will be a tight affair but see Brazil snatching all 3 points but are poor value.

Russia v South Korea

World Cup 2014

2014-06-17 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-17 00:18:10)

(Arena Pantanal, Cuiaba)

MARKET MOVE ON RUSSIA

Russia are without injured captain Shirokov (41 caps/12 goals) who withdrew from the tournament, also missing from the squad are defenders Anyukov (77 caps) and A.Berezutski (51 caps), midfielders Bystrov (47 caps) and Bilyaletdinov (46 caps), strikers Pogrebnyak (33 caps/8 goals), Arshavin (75 caps/17 goals) and Pavlyuchenko (51 caps/21 goals).

South Korea left defenders Cha Du-Ri (65 caps), Kang Min-Soo (33 caps) and Kim Chi-Woo (28 caps), midfielder Yeom Ki-Hun (49 caps), striker Lee Dong-Gook (99 caps/30 goals - top scorer) out of their 23-man World Cup squad.

Possible Line-ups:

Russia: Akinveev, Kozlov, Ignashevich, V.Berezutskiy, Kombarov, Fayzulin, Denisov, Shatov, Zhirkov, Dzagoev, Kerzhakov.
South Korea: Sung-Ryong, Yong, Jeong-Ho, Young-Gwon, Chang-Soo, Kook-Young, Sung-Yeung, Chung-Yong, Ja-Cheol, Heung-Min, Chu-Young.
Referee: Nestor Pitana (Argentina).

Info: Russia are in the last game to play the opening match and come to Brazil under the guidance of former England manager Fabio Capello. The Russians qualifed ahead of Portugal, winning 7 matches and losing two games to Portugal and Northern Ireland along the way. Russia have not progressed out of the group stage in the two previous World Cups they've qualified for since gaining independence from the Soviet Union. South Korea are in Brazil for their eighth straight World Cup appearance and only Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina and Spain boast a longer current streak. Coach Hong Myung-Bo has picked a young inexperienced squad for the tournament, but they come here in a poor reign of form after 4 defeats on 5 warm-up matches. They won only 4 of their 8 qualifying games but still managed to reach Brazil finishing behind Iran. Russia come into the game in higher spirits given South Korea's warm-up defeats and have the stronger squad, I expect a Russia victory.

Australia v Holland

World Cup 2014

2014-06-18 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-17 22:53:57)

(Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre)

MARKET MOVE ON HOLLAND
Australia are missing injured defender Franjic who is now out of the rest of the tournament. While midfielder Milligan, captain Jedinak, striker Cahill are a booking away from a possible one-game suspension.

Holland coach Louis van Gaal has no injury concerns and is likely to start with the same starting line-up that thrashed Spain in their opening game. Defender De Vrij, midfeilder De Guzman, striker Van Persie are a booking away from a possible one-game suspension.

Possible Line-ups:

Australia: Ryan, MacGowan, Davidson, Spiranovic, Wilkinson, Oar, Milligan, Jedinak, Bresciano, Cahill, Leckie.
Holland: Cillessen, Janmaat, Vlaar, De Vrij, Martins Indi, Blind, De Guzman, De Jong, Sneijder, Robben, Van Persie.

Referee: Djamel Haimoudi (Algeria).

Info: Australia were unlucky not to secure at least a point against Chile on Friday and put in an impressive performance having gone 2-0 down early on. Coach Ange Postecoglou will have been buoyed by the display of his players, but the defeat leaves their chances of progressing to the knockout stages hanging in the balance. Australia are the lowest ranked FIFA team at the World Cup and will find it tough against Holland. Holland romped to a 5-1 win over Spain on Friday and Louis van Gaal will be demanding a repeat performance against Australia. A win here will all-but guarantee Holland's place in the next round of the tournament and Van Gaal will want Holland to progress as group winners. The win against Spain highlighted the quality of the Holland team and its a case of whether it was a one-off or if Holland are the real deal this time. Holland are hot favourites here and rightly so and a win will see them qualify, while a defeat for Australia more or less ends their World Cup campaign. You wont get rich betting Holland to win but I dont see any other result other then a Holland win, but dont see a thrashing again but Holland secure their spot in the next round.

Spain v Chile

World Cup 2014

2014-06-18 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-17 23:41:04)

(Maracana, Rio De Janeiro)

MARKET MOVE ON SPAIN
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has hinted at making widespread changes after following the 1-5 defeat at the hands of Holland. Goalkeeper Casillas is a booking away from a possible one-game suspension, so Reina may get the nod as De Gea is out with a back problem.

Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli has no injury or suspension worries. While midfielder Aranguiz is a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Possible Line-ups:

Spain: Casillas, Juanfran, Ramos, Martinez, Alba, Alonso, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Pedro.

Chile: Bravo, Isla, Medel, Jara, Mena, Diaz, Aranguiz, Valdivia, Vidal, Sanchez, Vargas.

Referee: Mark Geiger (USA).

Info: Spain come into this game fully in the knowledge that they have to win or their tournament could be over by the end of the day. Given that they lost their first match by such a resounding scoreline, their goal difference leaves them in a position that means a draw might not be enough. Spain have won their last two meetings against Chile at the World Cup, winning 2-0 in 1950 and then again 2-1 in 2010. Chile were considered dark horses to make it out of Group B, so should certainly not be considered any pushovers. Their 3-1 win over Australia might have included periods of uncertainty and defensive wobbles, but they were good value for the win in the end, with a free-flowing, attacking brand of football that could hurt a Spain defence that is already lacking in confidence. Chile know that a draw would be a great result for them. This should be an exciting and attacking game to watch, Spain must win but Chile are not as under pressure as the current world champions, I fully expect to see a different Spain side but nervous because of the sistuation. Spain are 1.50 to win and that is poor value, especially against Chile but I can see Spain winning here..

Cameroon v Croatia

World Cup 2014

2014-06-18 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-18 00:09:17)

(Arena Amazonia, Manaus)

MARKET MOVE ON CROATIA
Cameroon missing best striker Eto'o who has a knee problem. While defender Nounkeu is a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Croatia will give a late fitness test to captain Modric who has a foot knock but should be ok to play, also on the plus-side is the return from suspension of key striker Mandzukic. While defenders Corluka and Lovren are both a booking away from possible one-game bans.
Possible line-ups:

Cameroon: Itandje, Assou-Ekotto, Nkoulou, Chedjou, Nounkeu, Mbia, Song, Makoun, Moukandjo, Choupo-Moting, Webo.
Croatia: Pletikosa, Srna, Corluka, Lovren, Pranjic, Rakitic, Modric, Olic, Kovacic, Perisic, Mandzukic.

Referee: Pedro Proenca (Portugal).

Info: Cameroon lost 0-1 to Mexico on Friday, though it could easily have been more. Giovani Dos Santos saw two first half goals incorrectly ruled out for offside and it could have been much worse for Cameroon in a rain soaked game against Mexico. Coach Volker Finke will be expecting a much-improved display from his players against Croatia as they look for 3 points or risk seeing their World Cup campaign ended. Croatia impressed against Brazil in the openening, but defeat to the hosts means they need to beat Cameroon. The return of Mario Mandzukic will provide a welcome boost, while Ivica Olic & Ivan Perisic both performed well on the flanks in defeat to Brazil, Modric was also a key figure. Cameroon looked poor going forward and will find it harder to overcome a well-disciplined Croatia who have the quality to win but are no value.

Colombia v Ivory Coast

World Cup 2014

2014-06-19 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-19 09:51:16)

(Estadio Nacional, Brasilia)

MARKET MOVE ON THE IVORY COAST

Colombia missing striker Bacca (11 caps/3 goals).

Ivory Coast without striker Ya Konan (27 caps/8 goals)

Possible Line-ups:

Colombia: Ospina, Armero, Zapata, Yepes, Zuniga, Aguilar, Guarin, Rodriguez, Cuadrado, Ibarbo, Gutierrez.
Ivory Coast: Barry, Aurier, Zakora, Bamba, Djakpa, Die, Tiote, Yaya Toure, Kalou, Gervinho, Bony.
Referee: Howard Webb (England).

Info: Colombia eased to a 3-0 win over Greece and to be fair it was no surprise to many and highlights the quality in the attack despite the absence of star striker Falcao. The win against Greece was their biggest at a World Cup but they have never gone unbeaten in back-to-back World Cup matches, also never won more than one game at any tournament. They are unbeaten in their 8 games (W4, D4) since September. Ivory Coast started their World Cup with a 2-1 win over Japan and they showed real desire to come back from a goal behind. Ivory Coast have ample options offensively, but are far from solid at the back and this could be exploited by Colombia. They have only failed to score once in their seven World Cup games but have gone almost a year without keeping a clean sheet and in the last eight games, both sides have scored. Colombia looked really comfortable in their opening game and will only get stronger in conditions that suit them, Ivory Coast started slowly but got the result required, although their ageing players could struggle. I fancy Colombia to sneak the win, both a draw would suit both teams.

Uruguay v England

World Cup 2014

2014-06-19 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-19 11:03:22)

(Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo)

MARKET MOVE ON ENGLAND

Uruguay are without defender Maxi Periera (91 caps) who is suspended, also fellow defender Lugano (95 caps) is out injured. Star striker Suarez (77 caps/38 goals - top scorer) will have a late fitness test after being out since knee surgery last month.

England have a doubt with winger Oxlaide-Chamberlain (15 caps/3 goals).

Possible Line-ups:

Uruguay: Muslera, Caceres, Coates, Godin, Fucile, Gargano, Perez, Rodriguez, Forlan, Suarez, Cavani.
England: Hart, Johnson, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines, Gerrard, Henderson, Welbeck, Sterling, Rooney, Sturridge.

Referee: Carlos Velasco Carballo (Spain).

Info: Uruguay lost 1-3 to Costa Rica in their opening match, it was a major shock and surprise that means the game with England is a must win, knowing they still have to play Italy in the final game. Uruguay not only lost to lowly Costa Rica, but failed to create much in the way of clear-cut openings, and they will be desperately keen to have Luis Suarez back from injury, espcecially as they miss their best two defenders. England lost 1-2 to Italy in their opening game but their performance in the stifling heat of Manaus was excellent and the conditions will be better for England tonight. The know that if they lose to Uruguay then they are out of the World Cup. It needs much better performance from captain Gerrard and striker Rooney if they are to win this evening, then concentrate on maybe needing to beat Costa Rica in the last game. England are big favourites to beat Uruguay, mainly because of the great performance against Italy but also because of defenders Maxi Pereira and Lugano (two best defenders) missing for Uruguay. A massive game in store and a game that both teams will be desperate to win. If England play like they did against Italy they will win, but they can be very inconsistent. I see England getting the win in a tight & tense game but I dont see any value in the odds in such a massive match.

Japan v Greece

World Cup 2014

2014-06-19 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-19 11:54:07)

(Estadio das Dunas, Natal)

MARKET MOVE ON JAPAN

Japan have a doubt with midfielder/captain Hasebe (79 caps).

Greece have no injury or suspension problems, but may make a couple of changes to after the poor performance against Colombia.

Possible Line-ups:

Japan: Kawashima, Uchida, Yoshida, Morishige, Nagatomo, Endo, Yamaguchi, Okazaki, Honda, Kagawa, Osako.
Greece: Karnezis, Torosidis, Sokratis, Manolas, Tzavelas, Kone, Katsouranis, Maniatis, Fetfatzidis, Samaras, Mitroglou.

Referee: Joel Aguilar (El Salvador).

Info: Japan lost 1-2 to Ivory Coast in their opening game and know they need to beat Greece tonight for their World Cup to continue. Japan took the lead in the defeat to Ivory Coast but were unable to hold on for three points. Coach Zaccheroni has ample quality going forward and he will need to rely on his attackers to break down Greece. Japan have played 18 games in the last year, keeping clean sheets only twice. Greece lost 0-3 to Colombia in their opening game it is sure to have left the team with low confidence and they need to pick themselves up quickly or risk making an early exit from the World Cup. Greece have proved a tough team to beat in the past and will need that fight this evening to get any result against Japan. Greece have now lost six of seven games at World Cups, failing to score in all those defeats. Japan should have the ability to break Greece down and could secure a slim win, it may not be pretty in a nervous game for both teams tonight.

Italy v Costa Rica

World Cup 2014

2014-06-20 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-19 23:23:32)

(Arena Pernambuco, Recife)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST ITALY

Italy will give late fitness tests to goalkeeper Buffon (140 caps) and defender De Sciglio (11 caps), while midfielder Verratti (7 caps) is a doubt.

Costa Rica have no injury or suspenion worries, so are likely to pick the same side that beat Uruguay.

Possible Line-ups:

Italy: Buffon, Chiellini, Barzagli, Bonucci, Abate, De Rossi, Motto, Pirlo, Marchisio, Candreva, Balotelli.
Costa Rica: Navas, Gamboa, Duarte, Gonzalez, Umana, Diaz, Bolanos, Tejeda, Borges, Ruiz, Campbell.

Referee: Enrique Osses (Chile)

Info: Italy beat England 2-1 in their opening game, it a game where they wasn't at their best but they dominated possession with their patient passing and controlling the midfield and in particular Pirlo. Italy know another win in this game and they are more or less through to the next stage. The conditions in the game will not favour Italy one bit as kick-off is 1pm local-time and coach Prandelli has already complained to FIFA. Costa Rica produced a remarkable performance in beating Uruguay 3-1 in their opening game and they are top of the group. Costa Rica will again sit deeper and deeper and hope to hit Italy on the break, especially Joel Campbell and his pace could be a threat to the Italy defence. Costa Rica have never won 2 consecutive games at a World Cup, but have scored in all six World Cup games against teams from Europe. Both teams won their opening games and after Uruguay's win over England tonight, a win here for either puts them in pole postion at thge top if the group. I would be very surprised if Costa Rica produce another miracle result like the one againt Uruguay, so its an Italian win for me here.

Switzerland v France

World Cup 2014

2014-06-20 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-20 00:26:25)

(Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador)

MARKET MOVE ON FRANCE

France have no injury or suspension worries. Defender Evra, midfielders Cabaye and Pogba are a booking away for a possible one-game ban.

Switzerand have no injury or suspension concerns. Defender Djourou is a booking away from a possible one-game suspension.

Possible Line-ups:

Switzerland: Benaglio, Lichtsteiner, Djourou, Von Bergen, Rodriguez, Inler, Shaqiri, Mehmedi, Stocker, Xhaka, Drmic.

France: Lloris, Debuchy, Varane, Sakho, Evra, Cabaye, Matuidi, Pogba, Valbuena, Griezmann, Benzema.

Referee: Bjorn Kuipers (Holland).

Info:  Switzerland beat Ecuador 2-1 in their opening game but only after a late winner from Haris Seferovic gave them all 3 points. The Swiss can expect a much tougher test from France. Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has moulded a young side that has only lost once in two years, many of the players progressed from the teams which won the U17 World Cup in 2009 then reached the U21 Euro Championship final two years later. France beat Honduras 3-0 in their opening game and to fair it could have been alot more. Coach Deschamps will be expecting a similar performance against Switzerland who are France's biggest threat in Group E, so the French coach would be right to demand a win. They are unbeaten in their last six matches (Won 5 and Drawn 1) and will qualify for the last 16 with a win, provided Ecuador do not beat Honduras. The market move has been on France who are trading at just under 1.80. Switzerland are a tough unit to beat and France will need all their attacking qualites to break them down. I expect a vert tight game and not many goals, plus a drawn would be a good result for both teams.

Honduras v Ecuador

World Cup 2014

2014-06-20 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-20 00:58:46)

(Arena da Baixada, Curitiba)

MARKET MOVE ON ECUADOR

Honduras will be without midfieder Palacios (96 caps) who is suspended, while defender Bernardez (79 caps) is a major doubt. Midfielders Oscar Garcia and Garrido are a booking away from a possible one-game suspension.

Ecuador have no injury or suspension worries. Defender Paredes is a booking away from a possible one-ban suspension.

Possible Line-ups:

Honduras: Valladres, Beckels, O.Chavez, Figueroa, Izaguirre, M.Chavez, Garcia, Garrido, Espinoza, Bengtson, Costly.

Ecuador: Domínguez, Paredes, Erazo, Guagua, Ayoví, A.Valencia, Gruezo, Noboa, Montero, E.Valencia, Caicedo.

Referee: Benjamin Williams (Australia).

Info: Honduras lost 0-3 to France in their opening game and are getting a name for their bullish approach in games and heavy tackling for which the French players complained on several occassions. Honduras have only won one of their last 8 matches (Won 1, Drawn 3, Lost 4) and continue to await their first World Cup win, drawing three & lost four of the previous 7 and failed to score in their last five World Cup games. Ecuador lost 1-2 to Switzerland in their opening game, despite taking the lead they couldn't contain the Swiss and failed to hold on for even a point. Ecuador only victory in their last 8 matches came against Australia in March, when they recovered from 3-0 down to win 4-3, it means they have now gone six matches without keeping a clean sheet. For both sides this is a must win game if they are to have any chance of progressing and Ecuador in particular will look to play on the front foot, with goal difference often key in the group stages. Ecuador have more quality throughout their ranks and have enough in their locker to win, especially as Honduras having not offered much from an attacking sense.

Argentina v Iran

World Cup 2014

2014-06-21 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-21 10:50:48)

(Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte)

MARKET MOVE ON ARGENTINA

Argentina have no injury or suspension worries.

Iran also have no injury or suspension problems. Midfielder Teymourian is a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Possible Line-ups:

Argentina: Romero, Zabaleta, Garay, Fernandez, Rojo, Rodríguez, Mascherano, Di María, Messi, Higuaín, Aguero.

Iran: Haghigi, Montazeri, Hosseini, Sadeqi, Pooladi, Nekounam, Teymourian, Heydari, Hajsafi, Dejagah, Ghoochanneijhad.

Referee: Milorad Mazic (Serbia).

Info: Argentina beat Bosnia & Herz 2-1 but in a largely unconvincing fashion in their first match, but the result was the most important thing and coach Alejandro Sabella will have learned from the mistake of starting with a 3-man defence. They will line up 4-3-3 this time around and will look to attack Iran from the off. Argentina have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last three World Cup matches, conceding six goals. Iran began their 2014 World Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw against Nigeria, they set up to frustrate their opponents and looked to hit them on the break or set pieces, and it worked. They could be even more defensive against a Argentina. Iran will do well to contain Argentina's strike force for a full 90 minutes and another clean sheet may well be beyond them. Iran cannot be eliminated even if they lose tonight. Argentina are trading at 1.15 to beat Iran, so you wont get rich. The thought of Messi, Di Maria, Higuain and Auguero running at the Iran defence is scary. Argentina will win today, and it may be a case of by how many. Argentina for an easy win and to keep a clean sheet tonight.

Germany v Ghana

World Cup 2014

2014-06-21 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-21 11:28:23)

(Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza)

MARKET MOVE ON GERMANY

Germany have a doubt with defender Hummels (31 caps).

Ghana have no injury or suspension problems. Midfielders Muntari (83 caps/20 goals) and Rabiu (18 caps) are a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Possible Line-ups:
Germany: Neuer, Boateng, Mertesacker, Mustafi, Howedes, Kroos, Lahm, Schweinsteiger; Ozil, Muller, Gotze.
Ghana: Dauda, Opare, Mensah, Boye, Asamoah, Essien, Muntari, Atsu, Boateng, Ayew, Gyan.

Referee: Sandro Ricci (Brazil)

Info: Germany thrashed Portugal 4-0 in their opening game on Monday and confidence will be sky high within the squad. The are now second favourites to win the World Cup. While this is a match which Germany are expected to win, they must not allow complacency to creep in given the fact that Germany lost their 2nd game in the 2010 World Cup against Serbia straight after thumping Australia 4-0 in their first match as well. Ghana lost 2-1 to USA on Monday and need a positive result here if they are to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages. They had 21 shots on goal against the USA but only three were on target. Now they face a much tougher test against Germany than they did against the USA and then they have to play Portugal in their final group game. Ghana basically have a mountain to climb to progress to the last 16. This could be a potential banana skin for Germany, but they have the power all across the pitch to secure the win, they are trading at 1.30 to beat Ghana and I fully expect Germany to win but it might not be as easy as the odds suggest, especially as Ghana will sit back and defend in a game that they cant afford to lose.

Nigeria v Bosnia & Herz

World Cup 2014

2014-06-21 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-21 12:18:26)

(Arena Pantanal, Cuiaba)

MARKET MOVE ON BOSNIA-HERZ

Nigeria have a major doubt with defender Oboabona (36 caps), also defender Omeruo (18 caps) midfielders Musa (38 caps/5 goals) and Gabriel (11 caps) are doubts. .

Bosnia-Herz have no injury or suspension problems. Defender/captain Spahic (75 caps) is a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Possible Line-ups:

Nigeria: Enyeama, Ambrose, Oshaniwa, Omeruo, Yobo, Mikel, Musa, Onazi, Azeez, Moses, Emenike.
Bosnia-Herz: Begovic, Mujdza, Kolasinac, Bicakcic, Spahic, Besic, Hajrovic, Pjanic, Ibisevic, Lulic, Dzeko.

Referee: Peter O' Leary (New Zealand)

Info: Nigeria drew 0-0 draw with Iran on Monday in what many have dubbed the worst game of the tournament so far. Nigeria may be impressive going forward, but lack defensive solidity. Nigeria are winless in 9 World Cup games, the longest streak of any side involved at this tournament, their last World Cup victory was 1-0 v Bulgaria in the group stage at France 98. They've failed to score in three of last five games. Bosnia & Herz lost 1-2 to Argentina in their opening game but they did put in a good account of themselves and despite the defeat, they should be buoyed by their performance abd coach Safet Susic was proud of the way his team never gave in and is confident they will get the result they need against Nigeria. With Bosnia on 0 points, they need to win here to have any chance to progress to the knockout stages. I fancy Bosnia & Herz to beat Nigeria tonight, they played really well against Argentina, while Nigeria were so bad against Iran. Bosnia & Herz are currently trading as low at 1.80 but 1.95 is still avaliable. There has been a big market move on Bosnia & Herz and I expect them to win.

Belgium v Russia

World Cup 2014

2014-06-22 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-22 09:33:58)

(Maracana, Rio De Janeiro)

MARKET MOVE ON BELGIUM

Belgium will give a late tests to defender/captain Kompany (59 caps) and winger Hazard (46 caps/6 goals) but are both expected to be available.

Russia have no injury or suspension problems.

Possible Line-ups:

Belgium: Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany, Buyten, Vertonghen, Witsel, Fellaini, Mertens, Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku.

Russia: Akinfeev, Eschenko, Berezoutski, Ignashevitch, Kombarov, Denisov, Glushakov, Samedov, Dzagoev, Kokorin, Kerzhakov.

Referee: Felix Brych (Germany).

Info: Belgium beat Algeria 2-1 in their opening game but were but from impressive and looked nervous on the big stage with so much expectation on them to do well, so many of the big names had a poor game, but their comeback victory means they are still favourites to qualify from the group. A draw against Russia would suit Belgium, but they haven't kept a clean sheet in their last seven World Cup games. Russia drew 1-1 with South Korea in their opening match and will need to go for the win after dropping points. They were the better side against South Korea but the conditions suited the Koreans better. Russia coach Fabio Capello won't want to open the game up too much though, as that would suit Belgium. Capello is not exactly renowned for the most excited football and I dont see that changing for today's important game. For Belgium a win will all but seal qualification to the next round, while for Russia a win will see them leapfrog Begium for top spot in the group, but a loss will put their chances of advancing to the last 16 in major doubt. I see a tight game and am edging towards a low-scoring draw tonight. Both could struggle in the heat today.

South Korea v Algeria

World Cup 2014

2014-06-22 20:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-22 09:59:04)

(Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre)

MARKET MOVE ON ALGERIA

South Korea have no injury or suspension problems. Defenders Cha Du-Ri and Cho Yong-Hyung, winger Lee Chung-Yong are all a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Algeria have no injury or suspension worries, are likely to select the same side narrowly beaten by Belgium in their opener.

Possible Line-ups:

South Korea: Jung Sung-ryong, Lee Yong, Yoon Sukyoung, Kim Young-gwon, Hong Jeong-ho, Ki Sung-yueng, Han Kookyoung, Lee Chung-young, Son Heung-min, Koo Ja-cheol, Park Chu-young.
Algeria: Mbolhi, Bougherra, Ghoulam, Halliche, Medjani, Bentaleb, Feghouli, Mahrez, Mostefa, Taider, Soudani.

Referee: Wilmar Roldan (Colombia).

Info: South Korea secured a commendable point in their 1-1 draw with Russia and will look to kick on from that ahead of their encounter with Algeria as they aim to progress from Group G. They impressed against Russia on Tuesday and have the ability to surprise any team on their day and South Korea will be confident of a win against Algeria. South Korea have won just one of their last six World Cup group stage games. Algeria lost 1-2 against Belgium on Tuesday but after taking the lead their inexperience showed against a Belgium side who got better the longer the game went on. Algeria showed glimpses of quality against Belgium, but need more resilience when they face South Korea. Algeria are winless in last 7 World Cup matches and managed just three shots against Belgium, the lowest in the opening games in the group stage. Both teams have the ability to secure a victory here, but this could be a cagey, low scoring affair and I would favour the draw or South Korea to nick a win.

USA v Portugal

World Cup 2014

2014-06-22 23:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-22 12:41:51)

(Arena Amazonia, Manaus)

MARKET MOVE ON USA

USA missing striker Altidore (71 caps/23 goals) who is out for the rest of the tournament with a hamstring injury.

Portugal are without defender Pepe (59 caps) who is suspended, also left-back Coentrao (46 caps) and striker H.Almeida (56 caps/19 goals) are both out injured.

Possible Line-ups:

USA: Howard, Johnson, Brooks, Cameron, Beasley, Beckerman, Bradley, Jones, Bedoya, Dempsey, Johansson.
Portugal: Patricio, Pereira, Costa, Alves, A.Almeida, Veloso, Meireles, Moutinho, Nani, Ronaldo, Postiga.

Referee: Nestor Pitana (Argentina).

Info: Portugal were thrashed 0-4 by Germany in their opening game last Sunday, the whole of the team were all over the place and especially captain and star man Cristiano Ronaldo who has been dealing with a knee injury for quite a few weeks and rumours suggest that he has not overcome it. Portugal were out-classed by the Germans full-stop and they also the fourth oldest squad from all the squads at the World Cup. USA beat Ghana 2-1 in their opening game last week and the squad are full of confidence after a very determined performance in very humid conditions. They know a win or draw here tonight will put them is a fantastic position for a place in the last 16, a feat few would have predicted before the tournament began. USA have managed just 2 clean sheets in their last 24 World Cup matches but have scored in their last seven. Portugal will be under pressure to get a win tonight after the defeat to Germany, USA are under less pressure and know a draw will be a good result later, I expect this to be a tight game, Portugal need to raise their game massively but I wouldn't be surprised to see the USA get a point by frustrating Portugal this evening.

Australia v Spain

World Cup 2014

2014-06-23 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-22 22:32:09)

(Arena da Baixada, Curitiba)

MARKET MOVE ON THE DRAW

Australia without striker Cahill (71 caps/34 goals - top scorer) who is suspended, also midfielder Milligan (30 caps) is out injured.

Spain coach Del Bosque is expected to make a host of changes as his side are out, while defender Pique (61 caps) and back-up keeper De Gea (1 cap) are doubts.

Possible Line-ups:

Australia: Ryan, Wilkinson, Davidson, McGowan, Spiranovic, Oar, Jedinak, McKay, Bresciano, Taggart, Leckie.

Spain: Reina, Alba, Ramos, Martinez, Juanfran, Koke, Busquets, Alonso, Mata, Cazorla, Torres.

Info: Australia were unlucky to have lost 2-3 to Holland on Wednesday, but the defeat means their World Cup dream is over. But the Aussies have impressed in Brazil and will look to head home on a high against a deflated Spain. Australia have scored more and conceded less than Spain but they will be without their best striker Tim Cahill who is suspended and that is a big blow. A draw here and they finish above Spain. Spain lost 0-2 to Chile on Wednesday night and not only were the defending champions beaten but they were played off the park by Chile. Two defeats from their opening matches and Spain will be on their way home after this game. Spain have never lost all three games in a World Cup group. They were poor against Holland and even worse against Chile, so will be desperate to beat Australia solely as a matter of pride for them. A game between two teams that are already out of the World Cup and nothing to play for, Spain are hot favorites but are anything like a sure bet!

Holland v Chile

World Cup 2014

2014-06-23 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-22 23:18:26)

(Arena de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo)

MARKET MOVE ON CHILE

Holland are without key striker Van Persie (87 caps/46 goals - top scorer) who is suspended, while defender Martins-Indi (18 caps) is expected to also miss out.

Chile have no injury or suspension worries but coach Sampaoli may rest midfielders Vidal (56 caps/8 goals) and Aranguiz (23 caps) have been nursing injuries and each have a yellow card to their name so another booking would rule them out of the next match.

Possible Line-ups:

Holland: Cillessen, Janmaat, Vlaar, De Vrij, Verhaegh, Blind, De Guzman, De Jong, Sneijder, Robben, Depay.

Chile: Bravo, Jara, Silva, Medel, Mena, Diaz, Isla, Valdivia, Gutierrez, Vargas, Sanchez.

Info: Holland thrashed Spain 5-1, then Australia 3-2 and know a draw here would be enough to win the group. Coach Van Gaal leaves Holland after the tournament to take over at Man Utd so will want to leave on a high. They put in a stunning performance in the 5-1 win over Spain, but laboured a bit against Australia but eventually won 3-2 that secured their qualification. They have not lost a World Cup group game since 1994. Chile beat Australia 3-1, then Spain 2-0 but need to win here again to be group winners. Tipped by many to be dark horses at the World Cup, they have lived up to the billing. While they were not exactly at their best in the 3-1 win over Australia, they produced a brilliant performance to beat Spain 2-0 and send the World Champions home. Chile have never won three successive World Cup games within the same tournament. Holland know a draw is enough to win the group, while Chile will want to win to top the group and avoid a possible meeting with Brazil in the next stage. Holland missing key man Van Persie is a major blow, both teams may also rest players here so I'm leaning towards a draw here.

Cameroon v Brazil

World Cup 2014

2014-06-23 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-23 00:18:50)

(Estadio Nacional, Brasilia)

MARKET MOVE ON BRAZIL

Cameroon are without midfielder Song (49 caps) who is suspended, while striker Eto'o (118 caps/56 goals) is again a major doubt, also defender Assou-Ekotto (24 caps) may be dropped after his headbutted team-mate Moukandjo in the defeat to Croatia.

Brazil have no injury or suspension problems but captain Thiago Silva (48 apps), midfielders Gustavo (21 caps) and Ramires (44 caps), striker Neymar (51 caps/33 goals) are all a booking away from a possible one-game suspension.

Possible Line-ups:

Cameroon: Itandje, Djeugoue, Nkoulou, Chedjou, Nounkeu, Matip, Aboubakar, Choupo Moting, Mbia, Enoh, Webo.

Brazil: Cesar, Alves, Silva, Luiz, Marcelo, Paulinho, Gustavo, Oscar, Hulk, Neymar, Fred.

Info: Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament but were far from convincing and then backed that up with a less-than-convincing 0-0 draw with Mexico. So they come into this game top of the group with four points and know a win or a draw would guarantee their slot in the last 16, but even a defeat could see them advance, although that would be dependent upon the result in Mexico's game with Croatia. Cameroon lost 0-1 to Mexico and then were thrashed 0-4 by Croatia which knocked them out of the World Cup, meaning they have nothing but pride to play for. Cameroon as most expected have struggled in a tough group and things don't get any easier in this final game and reports from Brazil is the atmosphere and mood within their ranks is very low, plus Cameroon have now lost their last six World Cup matches. Brazil should profit from the unrest in the Cameroon camp to secure a comfortable win and put in a more convincing performance than they have managed to this point. The pressure from the country and the fans will ease before the knock-out stage. Brazil to win to nil for me and hopefully a few goals to finish off their group.

Croatia v Mexico

World Cup 2014

2014-06-23 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-23 00:53:05)

(Arena Pernambuco, Recife)

MARKET MOVE ON MEXICO

Croatia have no injury or suspensions so coach Niko Kovac may name an unchanged line-up.

Mexico also have no injury or suspension worries and so coach Miguel Herrera has suggested he will go with the same line-up for the third game in a row. While Hector Moreno, Jose Vazquez and Paul Aguilar are a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Possible Line-ups:

Croatia: Pletikosa, Srna, Lovren, Corluka, Pranjic, Modric, Rakitic, Perisic, Kovacic, Olic, Mandzukic.

Mexico: Ochoa, Rodriguez, Marquez, Herrera, Layun, Dos Santos, Moreno, Guardado, Aguilar, Dos Santos, Peralta.

Info: Croatia lost 3-1 to Brazil in the opening game of the tournament but then bounced back to thrash Cameroon 4-0, it means that their World Cup fate is in their own hands as they must beat Mexico if they're to progress to the next stage. They have been eliminated in the group stage in four of their last five major tournaments. Their only defeat in seven matches under Niko Kovac came against Brazil in the first game. Mexico beat Cameroon 1-0 in their opening game, the showcased their resilience with a commendable defensive display in the 0-0 draw with Brazil on Tuesday night. It means Mexico only need a draw to progress to the next stage and so coach Miguel Herrera will hope for a similar peformance against Croatia. Mexico have reached the knockout stage in each of their last six World Cup appearances dating back to 1986. This should be a tight game with not alot between the two teams, Croatia will have to go all out for a win to progress but Mexico are in a more relaxed position knowing a draw will be enough. I dont see many goals here in a tight and tense affair, that could may well in up in a draw and that would suit Mexico.

Costa Rica v England

World Cup 2014

2014-06-24 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-23 22:50:54)

(Estadio Mineirao, Bela Horizonte)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST ENGLAND

Costa Rica are expected to rest several first-team regulars - strikers Campbell and Ruiz are among those expected to be rested.

England coach Roy Hogson has name his team and has dropped captain Gerrard, striker Rooney, keeper Hart, defenders Johnson & Baines. The team captain will be Lampard, also there are starts for defenders Smalling, Jones and Shaw, midfielders Wilshere, Milner and Barkley.

Costa Rica (possible): Navas, Acosta, Miller, Diaz, Francis, Barrantes, Calvo, Granados, Tejeda, Urena, Brenes.

England (confirmed): Foster, Jones, Cahill, Smalling, Shaw, Lampard, Wilshere, Milner, Lallana, Barkley, Sturridge.

Referee: Djamel Haimoudi (Algeria)

Info: Costa Rica have already beaten Uruguay 3-1 and Italy 1-0 in their first two matches and are by far the surprise package of the World Cup so far. They have already secured their qualification to the knockout stages and they are likely to go through as group winners as a point here guarantees top spot. To avoid injuries or suspensions, coach Jorge Luis Pinto is expected to make numerous alterations to his starting lineup. England lost 1-2 to Italy and 1-2 to Uruguay and knocked out of the World Cup after just 2 games. They did'nt play that bad agianst either teams but lacked that cutting edge and in the end it proved fatal. Coach Roy Hodgson has already confirmed it will be a much changed line-up against Costa Rica. This is the first time England have lost their first two matches at a World Cup. Gerrard, Rooney and Hart are all dropped. Costa Rica have qualifed and are expected to rest players, while England have nothing to play for and will use a young side in this game. The market moves are for Costa Rica and the draw, BUT a Costa Rica "B" team versus a young England team, I think England win all day long and on usual circumstances would.

Italy v Uruguay

World Cup 2014

2014-06-24 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-23 23:50:32)

(Estadio das Dunas, Natal)

MARKET MOVE ON URUGUAY

Italy have a doubt with midfielder De Rossi (97 caps/15 goals), while coach Cesare Prandelli is under pressure to make changes.

Uruguay have doubts with midfielder Alvaro Pereira (58 caps/6 goals) and captain/defender Diego Lugano (95 caps).

Possible Line-ups:

Italy: Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Darmian, Sciglio, Pirlo, Verratti, Marchisio, Candreva, Balotelli.

Uruguay: Muslera, M.Pereira, Gimenez, Godin, Caceres, Gargano, Rodriguez, Perez, Rios, Suarez, Cavani

Referee: Marco Rodriguez (Mexico)

Info: Italy beat England 2-1 in their opening game but then lost 0-1 to Costa Rica in a poor performance which has left their World Cup hopes in their own hands. They will hope to pick up a win to progress to the next round of the competition, though a draw will be enough. Coach Prandelli said in a press conference yesterday that his players are suffering from fatigue and the heat & humidity has really affected his squad. Uruguay lost 1-3 to Costa Rica in their opening match but then beat England 2-1 to knock them out of the World Cup and increase their own chances of qualifying to the knockout stages, they know they have to beat Italy to make it through to the next round as their goal difference is worse than Italy's, so a draw will see them crash out of the competition. Uruguay players have had an extra day to recover over the Italians. So a great game in prospect when Italy need only a draw to progress but Uruguay need to win to go through, so the pressure is on Uruguay to the the result and so they will have to take the game to Italy and that could be harder said than done. Italy are masters at defending and getting a result and have the experience of knowing what to do. For that reason I expect a tight, tense game and can see Italy frustrating Uruguay and possibly getting a draw and the point they need to qualify.

Japan v Colombia

World Cup 2014

2014-06-24 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-24 11:11:03)

(Arena Pantanal, Cuiba)

MARKET MOVE ON JAPAN

Japan have no injury or suspension worries.

Colombia have doubts with defender and captian Yepes (100 caps) and striker Bacca (11 caps/4 goals), also Colombia may rest key players as they are already through to the last 16. Midfielder Sanchez (47 caps) would miss the last 16 if booked so is expected to be rested, also key players Rodriguez (24 caps/7 goals), keeper Ospina (45 caps) and striker Gutierrez (32 caps/13 goals) may also be saved for the next round.

Possible Line-ups:

Japan: Kawashima, Konno, Uchida, Yoshida, Nagatomo, Hasebe, Honda, Yamaguchi, Kagawa, Okubo, Osako.

Colombia: Mondragon, Armero, Arias, Zapata, Valdes, Aguilar, Mejia, Guarin, Cuadrado, Quintero, Martinez.

Referee: Pedro Proenca (Portugal).

Info: Japan lost 1-2 to the Ivory Coast in their opening game, then drew 0-0 against Greece last week, it leaves Japan knowing that they must beat Colombia to keep alive their slim hopes of making the last-16 stage of the competition. Japan are 3rd in the group with one point, two points behind 2nd placed Ivory Coast, so a Japan win would be enough to see them in the next round if the Ivory Coast lose against Greece. Colombia beat Greece 3-0 in their opening and then beat the Ivory Coast 2-1 last week to secure a place in the last 16 of the World Cup. So coach Pekerman may name a weakened side tonight but will want a favourable draw in the next round and so he'll be looking at the results in the matches in group D that are played earlier in the evening. Colombia are unbeaten in two previous games against Japan but this is different. Japan need to win full-stop, while Colombia have already qualified and if they top the group they are likely to play either Italy or Uruguay, while if they finish 2nd in the group they are likely to play Costa Rica. Results in the early games and Colombia line-up could make all the difference before having a bet on this game tongiht.

Greece v Ivory Coast

World Cup 2014

2014-06-24 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-24 12:08:27)

(Estadio Castelao, Fortalez)

MARKET MOVE ON IVORY COAST

Greece will be without midfielder Katsouranis (113 caps/10 goals) who is suspended, while striker Mitroglou (34 caps/8 goals) is doubtful.

Ivory Coast missing defender Zokora (122 caps) who suspended, while winger Ya Konan (27 caps/8 goals) is an injury doubt.

Possible Line-ups:

Greece: Karnezis, Holebas, Torosidis, Sokratis, Manolas, Karagounis, Kone, Maniatis, Samaras, Fetfatzidis, Gekas.

Ivory Coast: Barry, Aurier, Kolo Toure, Bamba, Boka, Die, Tiote, Yaya Toure, Kalou, Gervinho, Bony.

Referee: Carlos Vela (Ecuador)

Info: Greece lost 0-3 to Colombia in their opening game and then drew 0-0 against Japan last week meaning they can still make it to the next stage if they beat Ivory Coast and Japan do not beat Colombia. If Japan also win, the Greeks will need to score at least three times. Greece have failed to score in seven of their last eight World Cup games. Coach Fernando Santos will leave his position at end of the tournament. Ivory Coast beat Japan 2-1 in their opening game, then lost 1-2 to Colombia in their last game, it leaves Ivory Coast's fate is in their own hands, and a win will see them progress to the knockout phase, however a draw would leave them relying on the result in the other game, with would see Japan overhaul them if they beat the Colombians by a two-goal margin (or if they score three more goals on the night), unlikely!! So Greece need to win and are still looking for their first goal of tournament, while Ivory Coast know a draw will be enough as long as Japan dont beat Colombia. We're in for an interesting end to Group C. And regardless of the different permutations, I see the Ivory Coast joining Colombia in the last 16.

Nigeria v Argentina

World Cup 2014

2014-06-25 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-25 09:26:18)

(Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST ARGENTINA

Nigeria have no injury or suspenions problems.

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has said he will rotate his line-up tonight and rest a few key players.

Possible Line-ups:

Nigeria: Enyeama, Ambrose, Oshaniwa, Omeruo, Yobo, Mikel, Onazi, Emenike, Moses, Odemwingie, Musa.

Argentina: Romero, Campagnaro, Demichelis, Mascherano, Garay, Biglio, Gago, Maxi Rodriguez, Messi, Lavezzi, Higuain.

Referee: Nocola Rizzolo (Italy).

Info: Nigeria drew 0-0 in their opening game and then beat Bosnia & Herz 1-0, they can qualify for the knock-out stage if they avoid defeat against Argentina. Nigeria are in 2nd place three points ahead of Iran in 3rd spot but could be knocked out of the tournament if they lose and the Iran beat Bosnia-Herz. Nigeria impressed in their group game to beat Bosnia & Hers 1-0 and all but secured their place in the next round. Argentina beat Bosnia & Herz 2-1 in their opening match, then beat Iran 1-0 with a last minute winner meaning they have qualified for the next stage and only need a point against Nigeria to secure top spot. So far Argentina have gained narrow wins over Bosnia & Herz and Iran and some pundits are saying it's not been good enough and they will have to show a massive improvement in order to reach the final stages. Nigeria only need a draw, Argentina only a draw - so this may not be pretty, while goals may be scarce. Who's not to say this is a likely draw , which suits both teams.

Bosnia & Herz v Iran

World Cup 2014

(Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST BOSNIA & HERZ

Bosnia & Herz coach Safet Susic may change his line-up this evening, with his team already eliminated from their their first World Cup

Iran have no injury or suspension worries, so coach Carlos Queiroz is likely to keep the same line-up played so well against Argentina.

Possible Line-ups:

Bosnia-Herz: Begovic, Spahic, Besic, Misimovic, Mujdza, Sunjic, Lulic, Medunjanin, Hajrovic, Pjanic, Dzeko.

Iran: Haghighi, Safi, Hosseini, Sadeghi, Nekounam, Shojaei, Timotian, Montarezi, Ghoochannejad, Dejagah, Pooladi.

Referee: Carlos Velasco (Spain)

Info: Bosnia & Herz lost 1-2 to Argentina in their opening game and then lost 0-1 to Nigeria, meaning their World Cup campaign came to an end Saturday night, though they are still angry not to have taken the lead after Edin Dzeko's first half goal was wrongly ruled out for offside. Nevertheless, they will want to give their fans something to cheer about before they leave Brazil, so will look to pick up 3 points against Iran. Iran drew 0-0 against Nigeria in their opening game, then came close to causing a huge upset against Argentina but lost 0-1 after Lionel Messi scored in the 95th minute. However, they can still qualify for the next round of the competition provided they can beat Bosnia and Herz and hope that Argentina beat Nigeria. Iran are yet to score a goal in this World Cup and will need to be a little more adventurous to win tonight. Bosnia & Herz have nothing to play for but pride, while Iran know they have to win here and hope for some help from Argentina in the other game, Bosnia & Herz should have beaten Nigeria comfortably, while Iran have defended for their lives so far. I see Bosnia-Herz winning tonight and finally giving their fans something to cheer about.

Ecuador v France

World Cup 2014

2014-06-25 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-25 10:39:58)

(Estadio do Maracana, Rio de Janeiro)

MARKET MOVE ON FRANCE

Ecuador have injury or suspension problems, so are likely to be unchanged from the side that beat Honduras. Enner Valencia, Juan Carlos Paredes, Jefferson Montero and Antonio Valencia are all one booking from a possible one-game ban.
France are without midfielder Yohan Cabaye (32 apps) who is suspended, also defender Raphael Varane (8 caps) is a doubts and may not be risked seeing as France have already qualified, while other players may be rested this evening.

Possible Line-ups:

Ecuador: Dominguez, Paredes, Ayovi, Minda, Guagua, Erazo, A.Valencia, Noboa, E.Valencia, Caicedo, Montero.

France: Lloris, Sagna, Sakho, Koscielny, Evra, Sissoko, Pogba, Schneiderlein, Griezmann, Remy, Giroud.

Referee: Desire Noumandiiez Doue (Ivory Coast)

Info: Ecuador lost 1-2 to Switzerland in their opening game after taking the lead, they then beat Honduras 2-1 after a hard-fought game meaning Ecuador have destiny in their own hands, but chances are they will have to defeat France in order to qualify. Ecuador have now gone seven matches without keeping a clean sheet. Ecuador could lose and still progress but are likely to have to beat Franc this evening.France beat Honduras 3-0 in their opening game, then beat Swizterland 5-2 in their last match to qualify to the next stage. Following two comfortable win, they can make it three group wins out of three tonight, having scored 8 goals in their opening two game, they are now looking for the same tonight to ensure they avoid Argentina in the last 16. France are unbeaten in 6 World Cup games against South American teams.  Ecuador need to win to be sure of qualification to the next stage, while France are almost certain because of their big goal difference. Alot could depends on what team French coach Dechamps picks tonight and if he rests most of his first-team players, then France at 1.65 are a lay in my opinion, especially as Ecuador need the win.

Honduras v Switzerland

World Cup 2014

2014-06-25 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-25 11:08:20)

(Arena Amazonia, Manaus)

MARKET MOVE ON SWITZERLAND

Honduras have no injury or suspenion problems.

Switzerland expect to be missing defender Steve von Bergen (43 caps) who suffered a fractured cheekbone in the loss to France.
Possible Line-ups:

Honduras: Valladares, Beckeles, Izaguirre, Garrido, Bernardez, Figueroa, Garcia, Claros, Espinoza, Costly, Bengston.

Switzerland: Benaglio, Lichsteiner, Rodriguez, Inler, Djourou, Shaqiri, Behrami, Dzemaili, Xhaka, Mehmedi, Drmic.

Referee: Nestor Pitana (Argentina).

Info: Honduras lost 0-3 to France in their opening game, then lost 1-2 to Ecuador to leave them with a miracle to progress to the next stage, they know they have to beat Switzerland, hope that France beat Ecuador and then there is still the goal difference against them. Honduras have only won one of their last nine matches, are they still waiting for their first World Cup win. Switzerland came from behind to beat Ecuador 2-1 in their opening game, but was then thrashed 2-5 to France in their last game, it means that the Swiss must win this match and hope that Ecuador fail to beat group leaders France if they want to reach the second round of the tournament. Switzerland suffered only their second defeat in 20 matches when they lost 5-2 to France in their last game. Honduras know they need a miracle to progress and to be fair, meybe dont deserve to be in the knock-out stage with their heavy handed approach in games, Switzerland need to win and a favour from France. I can see the Swiss winning here, lets hope its enough to qualify.

USA v Germany

World Cup 2014

2014-06-26 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-26 07:06:34)

(Arena Pernambuco)

MARKET MOVE ON THE DRAW

USA will check on striker Jozy Altidore (71 caps/23 goals) who limped out of the opening game with a hamstring injury, meaning coach Jurgen Klinsmann is expected to name the same team that drew with Portugal.
Germany have no injury or suspension problems.

Possible Line-ups:

USA: Howard, Johnson, Cameron, Besler, Beasley, Beckerman, Jones, Bedoya, Bradley, Zusi, Dempsey.

Germany: Neuer, Howedes, Hummels, Mertesacker, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Kroos, Ozil, Gotze, Muller

Referee: Ravshan Irmatov (Uzbekistan)

Info: USA beat Ghana 2-1 in their opening game, before drawing 2-2 with Portugal last time out but they were seconds away from qualification as Portugal equalized in the 95th minute. It means USA only need a draw in this game to progress to the next round. Klinsmann has made the USA into a tough unit but this is their toughest test to date. USA undefeated in 10 of their last 11 matches. Germany thrashed Portugal 4-0 in their opening game in a fantastic performance but then only drew 2-2 with Ghana is a game they know they really should have lost. Like USA they only need a draw and a point to take them through to the next round and more than likely as group winners. Germany are again a free-scoring team who have scored in 19 of their last 20 World Cup group games. Obviously the rumours have been circulating that both teams will play out a draw in order for both teams to progree to the next round, but Germany dont know how to sit back, although saying that Jurgen Klinsmann is the ex Germany coach and still very good friends with current coach Jochim Low. The draw has been a big market move all week and is now trading at low at 3.00. No bet.

Portugal v Ghana

World Cup 2014

2014-06-26 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-26 07:14:20)

(Estadio Nacional, Brasilia)

MARKET MOVE ON GHANA

Portugal welcome back defender Pepe (59 caps) after suspension, but strikers Hugo Almeida (56 caps/19 goals) and Helder Postiga (70 caps/27 goals) are both expected to be ruled, also injured defender Fabio Coentrao (46 caps/4 goals) is already out of the tournament.
Ghana are without midfielder Sulley Muntari (84 caps/20 goals) who is suspended and injured right-back Daniel Opare (17 caps).

Possible Line-ups:

Portugal: Beto, Alves, Pereira, Pepe, Costa, Meireles, Carvalho, Moutinho, Varela, Nani, Ronaldo.

Ghana: Dauda, Afful, Mensah, Boye, Asamoah, Rabiu, Badu, Boateng, Atsu, A.Ayew, Gyan.

Referee: Nawaf Shukralla (Bahrain)

Info: Portugal lost 0-4 to Germany in their opening game, they then drew 2-2 against USA after a last minute equalizer to gain them a point, they have produced two below-par performances and again rely on star man Ronaldo to run the show but he's not 100% fit and is struggling with a knee injury, Portugal know they need to win and hope they either Germany or USA win in the other game in the group. Ghana lost 1-2 to USA in their opening match, before draw 2-2 with Germany in their last match in a performance of high quality and they really should have beaten the Germans. Ghana were really expected to get out of a group that contained Germany and Portugal but if they beat Portugal and either Germany or USA win, then they will progress to the next round, but both scenario's are not that easy. Basically Portugal and Ghana need to win and hope the other game between Germany and USA doesn't end in a draw, Portugal have been disappointing, while Ghana have played well in both games. Both teams will attack from the start so goals may be on the cards. But even if Portugal or Ghana win here, it still may not be enough to progress.

Algeria v Russia

World Cup 2014

2014-06-26 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-26 08:07:26)

(Arena da Baixada, Curitiba)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST RUSSIA

Algeria have no injury or suspension worries, so coach Vahid Halilhodzic could name the same team that beat South Korea.
Russia have a doubt with right-back Aleksei Kozlov (12 caps).

Possible Line-ups:

Algeria: Mbolhi, Bougherra, Mesbah, Halliche, Bentaleb, Feghouli, Medjani, Brahimi, Slimani, Djabou.

Russia: Akinfeev, Kombarov, Berezutskiy, Ignashevich, Glushakov, Kokorin, Shatov, Samedov, Fayzulin, Kozlov, Kanunnikov.

Referee: Cuneyt Cakir (Turkey)

Info: Algeria lost 1-2 to Belgium in their opening game after taking an early lead, they then beat South Korea 4-2 in a easy game that they totally dominated and were 3-0 up by half-time. Algeria know that a draw will most likely be enough to progress to the next round, with South Korea needing a convincing win over group leaders Belgium in the other game to book a place in the next round. Russia drew 1-1 with South Korea in their opening game and they looked a little nervous, then they lost 0-1 to Belgium after a late goal. Russia must win, but Fabio Capello has come in for criticism for playing to avoid defeat thus far, rather than going for the victory, with his side rarely threatening in attack up to now. I will be a surprise if Russia do play an open game despite their need for three points. Algeria know they only need a draw to progress to the next stage as long as South Korea dont thrash Belgium which is highly unlikely, while Russia need to win and again hope that South Korea don't win. I expect a tight game, that may not be pretty to watch and I wouldn't be too surprised if there was a lack of goals in this match.

South Korea v Belgium

World Cup 2014

2014-06-26 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-26 08:10:08)

(Arena se Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo)

SMALL MARKET MOVE BELGIUM

South Korea have no injury or suspension problems.

Belgium have doubts with defenders Vermaelen (48 caps - vice captain) and Kompany (60 caps - captain), while coach Wilmots has said he will rotate his team as they have already qualified.

Possible Line-ups:

South Korea: Sung-Ryong, Yong Lee, Young-Gwon, Jeong-Ho, Suk-Young, Chung-Yong, Sung-Yeung, Kook-Young, Ja-Cheol, Chu-Young, Heung-Min.

Belgium: Mignolet, Alderweireld, Van Buyten, Lombaerts, Vertonghen, Witsel, Dembele, Defour, De Bruyne, Mertens, Mirallas.

Referee: Benjamin Jon Williams (Australia)

Info: South Korea drew 1-1 in their opening match after a decent performance, but then lost 2-4 to Algeria in a match in which they started slow and were losing 0-3 after just 38 minutes. South Korea still have slim hopes of reaching the knockout stages but will need to beat Belgium. They have just one point so far but will qualify if they beat Belgium more goals than Russia, if they see off Algeria. Belgium beat Algeria 2-1 in their opening match, then followed that up by beating Russia 1-0. They are top of the group with 2 wins from 2 games but have been below-par in both matches and have disappointed many who thought they would be stars in the World Cup. Belgium have qualified and will want to take at least one point here to win the group and probably avoid Germany in the next stage. South Korea will have to go all out to get a result which may still not be enough, while Belgium know they only need a point to progress as group winners. Belgium are trading as low at 1.65 and while they may win, they are poor value especially with a possible "b" team that may line up this evening and that they've already qualified and only play for a draw.

Qviding v Kristianstads

Sweden League 1

2014-06-28 15:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-28 11:47:11)

MARKET MOVE ON QVIDING

KRISTIANSTADS MISSING 5 REGULAR PLAYERS!!!!

Kristianstads are without defender Mollestam (10 apps), midfielders Svensson (10 apps/2 goals) and Nilsson (10 apps), striker Graham (10 apps/4 goals - top scorer) and captain Fribock (9 apps). Also striker Berner (5 apps) is out.

Info:  Kristianstads will be forced to use youth team players today!

Eidsvold v Valerenga II

Norway Division 2

MARKET MOVE IN ASIA FOR VALERENGA II

VALERENGA II HAVE CALLED UP 6 PLAYERS FROM FROM THEIR "A" TEAM.

Valerenga II have included senior players goalkeeper Kongshavn, defenders Iqbal and Olafsen, midfielders Blarud, Kastrati and Braensdrod in today's squad.

Brazil v Chile

World Cup 2014

2014-06-28 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-28 10:30:24)

(Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte)

MARKET MOVE ON BRAZIL

Brazil have no injury or suspenion concerns. While Thiago Silva, Ramires, Neymar and Luiz Gustavo are all a booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Chile will give a late test to defender Medel. While Vidal, Charles Aranguiz, Francisco Silva and Eugenio Mena are all one booking away from a possible one-game ban.

Possible Line-ups:

Brazil: Cesar, Alves, Silva, Luiz, Marcelo, Fernandinho, Gustavo, Oscar, Hulk, Fred, Neymar

Chile: Bravo, Jara, Silva, Medel, Mena, Aranguiz, Diaz, Isla, Vidal, Vargas, Sanchez.

Referee: Howard Webb (England)

Info: Brazil come into this game having taken seven points from their three group games, beating Croatia and Cameroon either side of a goalless draw with Mexico. But they certainly have laboured at times and not the performances we expected from them before the tournament begun. Brazil have never lost at home to Chile in 26 meetings spanning 95 years and are now unbeaten in 40 successive home matches, with their last defeat coming against Paraguay in August 2002. They need to up their game against Chile tonight. Chile 100% start to the tournament ended in Sao Paolo on Monday with defeat to Holland, though their wins against Australia and Spain saw them make it through a difficult group. Chile's aggressive pressing and fluid attacking style means that, at their best, they are irresistible to watch and near-impossible to contain. They tore Spain apart in the 2-0 win, so will have no fear about facing Brazil tonight. Chile will be used to the humid & hot conditions and they will have a massive fan following, so Brazil will have no advantage on that front. This should be an open and exciting game and Brazil are favourites but Chile should not be underestimated and they will certainly cause Brazil problems, on current performances Chile have been the better team but this is the knockout stages now and Brazil know they will have to play better. Chile are big odds and Brazil are no value at 1.50. I could see the game going to extra-time or penalties at big odds.

Colombia v Uruguay

World Cup 2014

2014-06-28 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-26 15:13:22)

(Estadio do Maracana, Rio de Janerio)

MARKET MOVE ON COLOMBIA

Colombia rested 8 players in their final group game against Japan and those players will come back into the side refreshed.

Uruguay are without key striker Suarez who is suspended for 9 games by FIFA following the "biting" incident against Italy. While defender Lugano will have a late test.

Possible Line-ups:

Colombia: Ospina, Zuniga, Armero, Zapata, Yepes, Sanchez, Aguilar, Cuadrado, Ibarbo, Gutierrez, Rodriguez.

Uruguay: Muslera, Caceres, Lugano, Godin, Pereira, Rios, Lodeiro, Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Forlan, Cavani.

Referee: Bjoern Kuipers (Holland)

Info: Colombia romped to the last-16, winning all 3 of their group stage games and conceding just 2 goals in the process - beating Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan. Their only defeat in their last fifteen internationals came at the hands of Uruguay in qualifying for this summer’s tournament in Brazil. Colombia have a massive following of fans and they are sure to outnumbered the Colombia fans tonight. Uruguay secured their place in the last sixteen with victory over Italy in their final group game in Natal on Tuesday, with Diego Godin scoring the only goal of the game, that was after beating England but losing to Costa Rica in their opening match. The big talking point in the last few days has all on about striker Suarez and FIFA banning him for 9 matches for biting Italian defender Chiellini on Tuesday. Colombia are favorites and rightly so and since the banning of Uruguay striker Suarez, there has been a big market move on Colombia who are trading at 2.15 to win game in 90 min's. Colombia have been one of the best sides at the World Cup so far and will be confident of beating a Uruguay rocked by the Suarez ban and unhappy at the decision by FIFA. I see Colombia qualifying for the last 8 tonight.

DC United v Seattle

USA MLS

2014-06-29 00:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-28 11:18:18)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST SEATTLE

SEATTLE MISSING KEY PLAYERS!!!

Seattle are without their best two strikers Martins (15 apps/8 goals - joint top scorer) and Dempsey (9 apps/8 goals - top scorer). Also missing are defenders Yedlin (11 apps), Traore (10 apps) and Remick (9 apps), midfielder Rose (6 apps).

Info:  Seattle players could also be suffering from fatigue as they player a US Open cup match on Thursday, that went to extra times + penalties.

US Chivas v Salt Lake

USA MLS

2014-06-29 03:30:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-28 11:11:17)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST REAL SALT LAKE

REAL SALT LAKE COULD BE WITHOUT 6 KEY PLAYERS!!

Salt Lake are without 5 regular players - goalkeeper Rimando (8 apps), defender Beltran (14 apps), captain Beckerman (10 apps/2 goals), midfielder Grabavoy (15 apps). striker Saborio (10 apps/6 goals - top scorer). Also defender Borchers (14 apps) is doubtful.

Holland v Mexico

World Cup 2014

2014-06-29 17:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-29 06:07:51)

(Estadio do Maracana, Rio De Janeiro)

MARKET MOVE ON HOLLAND

Holland have no injury or suspension problems, they also welcome back captain Robin van Persie from suspension, while defender Bruno Martins Indi will have a late fitness test but is expected to be ok to start.

Mexico without midfielder Jose Vasquez who is suspended, otherwise they have no injury problems.

Possible Line-ups:

Holland: Cillessen, Janmaat, Blind, Vlaar, Indo, De Vrij, De Guzman, De Jong, Sneijder, Robben, Van Persie.

Mexico: Ochoa, Aguilar, Layun, Marquez, Rodriguez, Moreno, Herrera, Salcido, Dos Santos, Guardado, Peralta.

Referee: Pedro Proenc (Portugal)

Info: Holland come into the knockout stages full of confident having won all 3 group games by beating Spain, Australia and then Chile to top their group with maximum points. Holland also scored 10 goals in the process, the most of all the teams at the World Cup. Mexico were also pretty impressive in the group stages by beating Cameroon and Croatia, then drawing with Brazil to finsh 2nd in their group with 7 points level with Brazil. Mexico also conceded just 1 goal in their group games and that was a late goal against Croatia. I expect this to be a tight game with two teams with different ways of playing, on one hand we have Holland who will go all out attack with the likes of Robben and Van Persie full of pace, while on the other hand we have Mexico who have Ochoa in the form of his life and a rock solid defence in front of him. The early market move has been for Holland who are now trading at around 2.10, while Mexico are as big as 4.00 in places. This should be a great game and I would not be surprised to see the teams sweating it out to extra-time or penalties. The hot, humid conditions will suit the Mexicans better and for that reason alone the Dutch want to win the game in 90 minutes but Mexico will defend and frustrate Holland and as I mentioned extra-time and penalties would not be a surprise for a Holland win.

Costa Rica v Greece

World Cup 2014

2014-06-29 21:00:00 (This report was created at 2014-06-29 06:51:54)

(Arena Pernamuco, Recife)

MARKET MOVES AGAINST GREECE

Costa Rica have no injury or suspension worries.

Greece have injury doubts with first-choice keeper Orestis Karnezis and key midfielder Panagiotis Kone. But Kostas Katsouranis returns from suspension.

Possible Line-ups:

Costa Rica: Navas, Diaz, Umana, Gonzalez, Duarte, Gamboa, Bolanos, Borges, Tejeda, Ruiz, Campbell

Greece: Glykos, Torosidis, Holebas, Karagounis, Manolas, Papastathopoulos, Salpingidis, Maniatis, Samaris, Christodoulopoulos, Samaras.

Referee: Benjamin Jon Williams (Australia)

Info: Costa Rica have been the surprise package of the World Cup, they beat Uruguay and Italy, then drew with England to top their group with 7 points and this was the group that most pundits before the tournament were calling the group of death. Now Costa Rica aim to continue their successful run by qualifying for the quarter-finals. Costa Rica conceded just 1 goal in 3 group games, scoring 4 goals. Greece lost to Colombia, drew with Japan and then a late goal against Ivory Coast proved sufficient for them to reach their first ever World Cup knockout stage as they finished 2nd in their group with 4 points. In the process they managed just the 2 goals in the final match and at times are not the most exciting or entertaining team to watch. The remind me of the Greek team that won the Euro's. This is not the most glamorous tie of the round but either Costa Rica or Greece know a win tonight and they are in the last 8 of the World Cup, Costa Rica are definitely here on merit but Greece have been really poor and are only here courtesy of a late goal against the Ivory Coast. Costa Rica will play their usual pacy, flair attacking style, while Greek will defend and hope to frustrate them. The market moves have been on Costa Rica and they are currently trading at 2.60 in places and those odds look value to me, while Greece are 3.25. I have a soft spot for the Costa Ricans and they deserve to progress to the next stage. This might not be the best of games and I don't see lots of goals this tonight if as expected Greece keep it tight, it could be a long night but fully expect Costa Rica to qualify although it could be a nervy end with extra-time and penalties.

MARKET MOVE ON FRANCE

France have a doubt with midfielder Sakho who is struggling with a thigh problem, but midfielder Cabaye returns from suspension, also Evra, Debuchy, Varane and Valbuena should return after being rested for the Ecuador game.

Nigeria are without winger Babatunde is out with a fractured wrist, while striker Moses will have a fitness test after his missed the Argentina game with a muscular injury.

Possible Line-ups:

France: Lloris, Debuchy, Varane, Sakho, Evra, Cabaye, Pogba, Matuidi, Griezmann, Valbuena, Benzema.

Nigeria: Enyeama, Ambrose, Oboabona, Yobo, Oshaniwa, Mikel, Onazi, Azeez, Moses, Odemwingie, Emenike.

Referee: Mark Geiger (USA)

Info: France beat Honduras 3-0 and Switzerland 5-2, then drew 0-0 with Ecuador in their group games to finish top with 7 points from Switzerland. It was much easier route to this stage than their intial route to Brazil as they needed a 3-2 aggregate win over Ukraine in the play-offs. Never less, France hit the ground running early on with stunning displays and wins against Honduras and Switzerland. Nigeria drew 0-0 with Iran, beat Bosnia-Herz 1-0 and then lost 2-3 to Argentina in their final game, to finish 2nd in Group F with just 4 points. Despite winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria have had off-field problems with money not being paid, training was even canceled on Friday as the players walked off the training ground. Nigeria have also struggled on the pitch with average performances. France coach Didier Deschamps was able to use the final group game with Ecuador to rest his entire starting line-up, this should give the players advantage over Nigeria who had a tough game against Argentina. The conditions today should suit the Nigerians better than the French but France have the better players and in-depth squad to cope. The market move has been for France and they are now trading at 1.50 which is no value but France should have the quality to progress and should will want to finish the job within 90 minutes.

Germany v Algeria

SMALL MARKET MOVE ON GERMANY

Germany missing striker Podolski who has a thigh problem, while full-back Boateng remains a doubt with a knee injury but should be passed fit

Algeria have no injury or suspension problems so should be unchanged from the team that drew with Russia.

Possible Line-ups:

Germany: Neuer, Boateng, Hummels, Mertesacker, Hoewedes, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Ozil, Gotze, Muller.

Algeria: Mbolhi, Belkalem, Halliche, Mesbah, Medjani, Mandi, Bentaleb, Feghouli, Brahimi, Slimani, Djabou.

Referee: Sandro Ricci (Brazil).

Info: Germany beat Portugal 4-0, then drew 2-2 with Ghana before beating the USA 1-0 in their final group game to finish top of Group G with 7 points and the narrow win over USA ensured they avoided Belgium in the last 16 stage. In spite of some injuries to important players before the tournament, Germany arrived in Brazil as one of the main candidates to win the World Cup and that not changed. Algeria lost 1-2 to Belgium, beat South Korea 4-2 before drawing 1-1 with Russia in the final group game to earn them the point that secured 2nd point in the group on 4 points. Algeria produced three strong performances and with the primary objective already achieved, Algeria players will be under no pressure when they face Germany, which should result in another strong promising display. Germany are unbeaten in last 14 fixtures, so it is hardly surprising they are trading at 1.30 to beat Algeria tonight, but they struggled against African side Ghana in the group, so they will not underestimate Algeria who are a strong, pacy and powerful team. But a bit like the earlier game, Germany have too much quality in their line-up and in-depth in their 23-man squad and should beat Algeria. The conditions will be hot & humid again which favors the Algerians but Germany should progress and win the game in the 90 minutes.
